We had the good fortune of connecting with Cory Martinez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Cory, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
Though it sounds very cliche , it’s the hard work and countless hours behind the scenes that no one else sees that is the most important factor to me. Without that I wouldn’t be where I am today with the opportunities I have now.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Though I haven’t made it as far as I want to the growth and progress within the last 6 months has been immaculate, it truly shows that my hard work has been paying off. Many people don’t know my full background or upbringing and the real connection I have to music. When I was born I was half deaf with only one ear being able to hear and not even 100% at that , fortunately for the amazing doctors I had by my side when I was younger they were able to man make an ear canal, giving me a slight chance of being able to hear out of my right ear. This has always been a challenge for me to overcome especially within my artistic space of dancing , but I believe it shows my uniqueness due to my ability to pick apart music and bring different sounds to life for the eyes to see.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If I were on a vacation with a friend some of the things I’d bring them to experience with me are some of the nice restaurants, possibly bars as well. Though I’d be sure to bring them out to an event and experience the dance community/scene out in the city due to its welcoming nature and exciting atmosphere.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
A couple people who deserve recognition would be first God , this is the year of the open door and I have seen many of them open for me , praise be to him. Also second, I’d like to shoutout my brother Simba for being the one who inspired me to dance and take it serious, he has truly pushed me past and beyond my limits and always showed the most love and support throughout my journey.
