We had the good fortune of connecting with CJ Irie and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi CJ, do you have a favorite quote or affirmation?
My favorite quote would have to be my brands mantra, Are you in Control? It is the most important question I ask myself periodically in life, am I in control of my thoughts, actions, beliefs, passions, it’s a question that keeps me grounded as well something that relates to everyone.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I look at my art as worlds I am creating, some of my favorite work tends to be something that’s more than meets the eye, something you can dissect and learn from. My goal is to create spaces such as this with my work in clothing, digital and physical artwork, music, and any other creative department I step foot into in the future. I am a creator that hates to be put in a box, that never worked for me. So after I graduated high school I really looked at my skills and what can I make with the knowledge I have, starting with my clothing line was a strong step to display those skills. With product design resonating with my hand drawn illistrations, to moving digitally and improving in graphic design. And have full control over the marketing and creative direction with each release. I have a huge passion for filmmaking and directing so I intend to keep improving in that field as well as I continue to market my brand even further. Going full entrepreneur is no easy task, it’s the harder route than to follow the traditional path, so I like to make it known that I’m on a journey, I am young, and my work will display that as I continue to grow in life and with my talents.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
A thing I love about Atlanta is there tends to be always something going on you can go to, so many pop ups, concerts, and events. I love No Signal that spot so cool. The Fine arts museum in Atlanta is solid too I go every few months.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My mother and friends back home. Ever since I been a child my mother has supported my creative experiments and endeavors, as well as help guide me with the lens I view the world today. All my brothers back home have been with me since we were children, and we still connect daily over all these years, I truly have a brotherhood.
