We had the good fortune of connecting with Christyn Alaniz and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Christyn, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
It all started at a time where I was very homesick and still trying to adjust into marriage and a new lifestyle. I had just moved from Atlanta, GA to Idaho. The first year was hard to get use to. I was starting all over again so to say. On our first year wedding anniversary my husband bought me a camera. He told me that maybe having a hobby would help with my homsickness and cheer me up.So I picked up my camera and started taking pictures every time I would head out to go hiking. I started taking some classes, investing in more equipment, taking pictures of the beautiful scenery and eventually people. Before you know it I had friends who would reach out to me to take their family pictures. I was a little hesitant to start charging or to even make it into a business. However with the support and encouragement of family and friends I was able to make it happen, I decided to make it official: Alaniz Photography.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I was able to accomplish my professional goals with the help of my family. I wouldn’t be where I am with out their help. Sometimes you can’t do it all by yourself. I’m grateful to be surrounded with such a supportive group of people who I can call family and friends. It was truly humbling.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If you are visiting Atlanta, I would definitely recommend to take a trip to the GA Aquarium, and then make a stop at the Civil Rights Museum. Later head towards Ponce City Market and visit the Rooftop for delicious food and a stunning view of Atlanta. When it comes to food definitely dine in the Buckhead area! There are great restaurants! Some of my personal favorites are: Canoe, Aria, Chops, Umi, South City Kitchen and Rumi’s Kitchen! Then head towards Krog City Market and check out the local shops. And finish off with a stroll down the Atlanta Beltline and grab some ice cream! Atlanta has some beautiful hidden gems!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would love to dedicate my shoutout to my family. For encouraging me to keep going and not to give up! Also a shoutout to Janelle aka Froggie Flor for her support and love. And a huge SHOUT OUT to all my clients who have booked me! I am so thankful and grateful for them everyday!
