Meet Chloe Harris | Makeup and Multidisciplinary Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Chloe Harris and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Chloe, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
When I was little 7 or 8 years old, one of my favorite past times was going through my mom’s perfume and makeup collection. I would spend hours looking through smelling and playing with her stuff hoping she wouldn’t catch me. A few years later I became obsessed with youtube tutorials and makeup videos. By 6th grade i got my first eyeshadow palette and used it to death. I would spend hours watching videos and trying out looks on myself. Eventually i started making my own short videos with my webcam. It was so fun creating looks inspired by the videos i watched, from then on out I knew i found something I loved to do. I even at some point would crush eyeshadows and powders and mix them together to create my own makeup. as i got more confidence and into my passion, making youtube videos to display my makeup art became my life and I would post videos every week. By high school I started doing makeup for others because everyone at my school knew me for my makeup looks. In 10th grade, everyday I would come with a new eyeshadow look. I would get asked by friends and classmates to do their makeup for homecoming dances and proms. I did this throughout high school and by college I would do clients that reached out to me via instagram. Through college I did makeup for music artists. photoshoots, graduations, weddings, and fashion shows. I started my own business when I found so much joy doing others makeup and enjoyed making others feel special and beautiful. It felt like my own super power, my own magic I could share with others.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Makeup to me means so much more than just trying to cover up, change your appearance and look beautiful. as i’ve grown as a makeup artist makeup changed its meaning to me. I’d wear lots of makeup in high school to look pretty but also to express a side of myself nothing else could. I loved boldness and color because i liked the expression of myself to come alive in my face. Once i started doing makeup for others I wanted to get better at my skill set in order to give my clients the best experience. lots of times i work with people and they show me a picture of what they want to look like. one of my first goals as an artist is to perfect that image whatever it was in order to allow my client to feel they can display the beauty they seek. working at sephora and more of my commercial clients let me become more confident in working with all types of faces and skin tones and feel comfortable in my skills. i got to the point i wanted to have more of a distinct look, someone could look at a client i’ve done and know who did it. So after the perfectionism stage ive been working and figuring out what makeup looks like in my world of artistry. i didn’t want to just copy a look that someone shows me, i wanted to enhance and push past the boundaries of makeup and honestly have more fun with it. finding my style is still in progress and i still haven’t set on what makes my makeup style mine but i do feel more confident in taking risks and challenging myself and my clients ideas of true beauty. you can be anyone u want and look anyway you want just like fashion or any other forms of art, so that’s been my approach not just with makeup and professional life but in my personal life. i want to always take the approach that life is more than what meets the eye, its about the way it feels and so much more, and so is makeup to me. makeup is whatever u make it and i just have falling in deep love with making someone feel something when they look at my art and also feel special with it on.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would love to shout out my parents and my partner for always being my biggest supporters. They always encouraged me and helped me grow in every area of my life with all my passions including makeup. I’d also love to shout out every person that’s ever allowed me to touch their face and collaborated with me. All the amazing photographers that reached out to me to work with me. Also shout out to my friends and makeup friends that always helped me bounce ideas and advice in this industry and encouraged my growth.
