We had the good fortune of connecting with Chenieria Bowens and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Chenieria, what’s the end goal, career-wise?
In end, I want to be able to say I inspired someone. I want to be proud of the work I have done. I pray to be a celebrity makeup artist, author, philanthropist, content creator, mental health advocate, PCOS advocate and a motivator who blesses the cover of plenty magazines. My non profit Babes Breaking Through will be running smoothly and helping plenty of young ladies in need. I want my children to be proud of the work I have done and my contributions to the world. I want to be most proud of myself for accomplishing my goals and changing the world.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
As a little girl, I always loved art, makeup, and creativity. It just grew into a bigger hobby as I got older. I started practicing full-face makeup looks on myself in 2017. I went through my makeup and threw out all my old stuff and ordered $100 worth of makeup from E.L.F. It was not as easy as the girls on youtube make it look. I realized I needed to do it one step at a time. I practiced brows until I mastered them. Then I moved to highlight and contour and so on. I practiced eyeshadow last because that was the most difficult for me. I also worked on some creative looks such as, SFX, holiday looks, etc. Now five years later, I have mastered full-face beats on myself and II have started practicing on others. I quickly learned nothing great happens overnight. I must work at it to keep improving and eventually, every struggle will be worth it. I want the world to know nothing about my story has been easy but I know for a fact it will be worth it. So LOOK OUT WORLD! Remember this name and face because you will see it again!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We would go visit Discovery Green in downtown Houston then take a trip to The Waffle Bus for a great meal. We could also go visit Atomic or Kamp Houston for a night out and some good food. Another great place we could visit is Museum district and and go have lunch at hermann park.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
First I have to thank God for all that he has done for me on this journey. Big thanks to my amazing husband for being patient with me and encouraging me and taking care of the kids while I made content. Huge shout out to my favorite influencers IONATheMUA, TailorMadeJane, IrisBelein, ItsMyRayeRaye, JackieAina, and BMarie. Watching their youtube videos really helped me learn and grow as a makeup artist. Another thanks to Iona, who is one of my favorite influencers and she is also my mentor. I have followed and watched her journey online for years and she has helped me in ways she will never know. I have so many makeup sisters that I have along the journey and I must thank them for their friendships, collabs, relationships, advice, critiques and support.
