We had the good fortune of connecting with Chelsea Counts and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Chelsea, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
This is such a great question-WOW! For me….work, life, balance is a consistent practice that I want to make sure becomes a true way of life for me long-term. It’s about being present with whatever I am doing, ENJOYING that present moment & making sure I pace myself in that present moment. I witnessed my single Mother be a Full-Time Mom to my twin sister & I while she was also breaking barriers as a successful entrepreneur. We saw first hand the true definition of work-ethic is “having no excuses to give up.” As my businesses progress & prosper, my balance has definitely changed over time – for the better! Being that I use to be a “workaholic,” I neglected enjoyment of life with my family & friends, vacations & mental breaks for myself – all because I wanted to “get ahead of work.” Life & God showed me firsthand, that my peace of mind, soul, spirit & body is priority over any meeting, task or project. When my Grandfather made his transition & came to peace with himself & God, all that mattered was me being by his side & with my family to love on him. Work was not a priority…Family was! Balance for me is remembering to stop what I’m doing to breathe & slow down when necessary. Balance for me is remembering to smile & not take life so seriously. Balance for me is crying when I need too & not feeling silly about it. Balance for me is listening & following my intuition in meetings & when I’m in the mall shopping too (lol). Balance for me is being focused to complete a task/project & then watching Toy Story 3 while I eat Twizzlers to love on my inner child. Balance is saying thank you for everything., not just when things are going your way. Balance for me is about being true to all sides of yourself!
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am Chelsea Cantrell Counts – Licensed Beauty Professional, Branding & Product Developer (& so much more in between). I am most proud of continuing to follow my intuition in every step of my life, which is also how I have gotten where I am today professionally as well. Some of the lessons I have learned along the way include: 1. Be patient (when necessary), not impulsive 2. Speak up for yourself 3. Be Yourself ALWAYS! 4. It’s okay to be uncomfortable in the process…Keep Going in the discomfort 5.. See it. Speak it. Be it. Live it 6. Be Kind ALWAYS! I want the world to know that my story is still being written & I LOVE every chapter 🙂 My brand is honesty & integrity of self will always be the route to happiness!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Best Friennndd! I am so happy you’re in town, I’ve got our itinerary planned out of all the things we love to do & places you’ll love. First thing, we’re going to do is have girl chat & catch up while we sip our Stella Rosa and eat our favorite snack…mangos. Once we are all caught up, we’re going out for dinner in the city at Houston’s to have our spinach dip appetizer, and Salmon, Broccoli and Mashed Potatoes as our favorite entree. After dinner we’ll go back to the house to watch Save the Last Dance and quote the entire movie until we get sleepy. The next morning, we will go to Waffle House to get your All Star Breakfast and Orange Juice with a Shopping Spree at the Malls and thrift stores. After a fun day of shopping, we have scheduled massages & Nail appointment. One of my friends is having a house party & karaoke night where people actually dance and know “good” music, so get ready to sweat your hair out that night, but don’t worry, the next morning, I’ll shampoo, condition, trim and style your hair before you catch your flight Monday. And to end your trip we’ll go to Cascade on Sunday to skate our way into a great week.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to give a shoutout to my Mother (Coach Greta) who has instilled in me an abundance of morals, values & qualities that I will be able to instill & share with my children. Thank you for all you sacrificed to make sure Chela & I knew that we truly can do anything in life! Thank you for supporting my dreams & being there for me every time I needed your advice & wisdom. Thank you for loving me unconditionally & thank you for being my Mommy. Love, Chelsea\
