We had the good fortune of connecting with Chantelle Douglas and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Chantelle, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I wrestled with becoming a business owner because in my family everyone works until retirement. I just knew that wasn’t my destiny. After working dozens of jobs and none of them in the field I graduated in I decided to take radical action. It was either continue to work jobs I was not passionate about or create something that I loved to do and do it on my own terms. Although it is the road less traveled I have been enjoying the journey.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Write For You Media helps health and wellness professionals build brand awareness online. We do this by offering social media management, lead generation, and marketing consultations. I have a personal affinity for all things holistic health and wellness so that is a huge driving force. I began my entrepreneurial journey after working for a nonprofit organization. The director asked if I would take on the role of managing their social media and email marketing. With a background in Mass communication, I was eager to create. Little did I know a need desire would be sparked. A desire to keep communities engaged with their favorite businesses and organizations. The journey has not been easy. I didn’t take out a business loan or ask for investors. I did everything myself while working. Finding my voice has been a great hill to climb. Often times businesses start and mimick other businesses in hopes of finding their sweet spot quickly. Well, I’m sure it didn’t work for them because I tried it and it didn’t work for me! After entering motherhood in 2019 I knew I had to elevate my game as this business will be a generational blessing. I let go of the idea of finding clients from friends and family and really put myself out there with strangers. Hosting network events in my hometown plus taking courses, coaching, and evolving as a woman has helped me level up and really do things my way.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My amazing parents deserve major recognition for where I am now. Raised in a different generation where keeping your head down and working for others was the norm they never let me feel bad for wanting to change the narrative. With many questions and concerns they continuously create space for me to be me. I jokingly tell my dad, “You’ve been working since you were 13, there is no way I can catch up with you. I might as well keep working for myself!”
