We had the good fortune of connecting with Cayla Jones – Burden and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Cayla, what is the most important factor behind your success?
“If you do what you love, you’ll never work a day in your life.” – Mark Twain.
I’d honestly have to say the most important factor behind my past, current and the future continued success of my business is my love and passion for what I do. I take pride in my work and my main goal is to ensure that my client is 100% happy during and, most importantly, at the completion of our project. I genuinely enjoy creating for different brands and personalities. It’s more of an outlet than anything else could ever be for me. Daily motivation for me will always be the reactions I get every time I create someone’s vision and bring it to life. I have a unique, complex, yet divine outlook and I spread that in every piece of art I make. The most important factor behind my own success is my drive. There isn’t anything I believe I can’t do and that’s makes me unstoppable as an artist, an entrepreneur/ business owner, and most importantly, a young black woman. I adapt and thrive in any environment because I believe in my business. My business is just as important as my religion and there’s nothing that deter me away from my faith.

My art is always my best attempt (in that moment in time) to express my thoughts and what I’m reaching for. In my eyes, my artwork evolves with each design. Whether the intent is noticeable to another eye or not, I always spot the growth. I got to where I am today mainly because of my natural born love for experiencing different people in general. There are so many amazing beings in the world and the moment I connect with a new energy, it’s always exciting for me. I’ve always been so easily comfortable working with people hands on. I’ve been outgoing as far back as I can remember. Customer service is 50% of running a business and the more effective the better. Flawless customer service paired with an unmatched love for the “job” promises undeniable customer satisfaction. And that, is Pyramid Visions. I’m most proud of my growth and my seamless ability to adapt in this field over the last few years that I’ve been in business. I had fears, like any realistic entrepreneur, of being able to maintain and rise while also being able to do what I love. But also without “backtracking”. We all have our own version on what that may be. I knew it wasn’t going to be easy, but I’ve never had a problem with hard work. It’s really my preference because anything easy is boring. I grew up an athlete so hard work = blood + sweat & tears. That’s the only equation I know. I’m excited about the new art pieces I’m working on and I’m sooo looking forward to releasing them. If we’re being honest, having a true love for your business is always rewarding. A lot of the times you may think you specialize in one thing and the next thing you know you’re perfecting a NEW craft. With that being said, these last two years have been so great to me and unexpectedly, a few of my services have really taken off. A few being my business starter packages, website designs, and custom quality printing materials have truly required all of my time and efforts. While working on my time management has been most important to me, I’ve been unable to really tap back into my personal art and illustrations until recently. I’ve perfected another area of my business and I’m happy to be returning to the part of what I do that makes me the happiest. Drawing and illustrating is an outlet I’m grateful for and one of my favorite ways to express what’s on my mind, what’s going on in the world, my favorite artist or song, really anything. I have some new pieces I’ve been spending hours and hours on and I cannot wait to finish them and release them to the world. My illustrations are so loud and yet subtle in a way and mixed with everything I’ve learned and taught myself since my last few designs, it’s going to definitely show. To name a few in the works, I’m doing several amazing tribute pieces to a few greats the world has lost. Nipsey Hussle, Kobe Bryant, Chadwick Boseman & more. What the world should know about me is that there’s no other designer like me and I’ll continue to evolve until I reach my final form as an artist. My eagerness to learn is one thing and my determination to do anything is another. This is a business of trial and error and in order to grow you MUST mess up. Everything will be a learning experience and it’s up to you to determine what that experience in time is set to teach you. Faith and hard work. That’s all you need.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’m such a homebody, lol. So sadly I’m not the go to planning person. My life is so planned out in every other aspect, in my leisure time I like to really just be spontaneous. My favorite thing to do though, is EAT! Char Korean Grill, Chops, Peach and the Porkchop & Sri Thai have to be just a few of my favorite spots to eat at. I’ve been a regular at Rusans since i moved to Atlanta lol. So most of the time when I’m out of the house, I’m checking out a new spot with bomb food and a cool vibe. Any outdoors activity is always a yes in my book.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’m so grateful for this opportunity! This is dedicated to my husband Akeem; thank you for being everything I’ve ever needed. My mom, the smartest woman I know and my daddy, a natural born hustler. And lastly, my late mother in law, Brenda Colette Law. Miss you honeybun <3
