We had the good fortune of connecting with Brianna Knight and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Brianna, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I identified with the love of art very early in my life, however it was not until the loss of my grandmother that I chose to begin entrepreneurship. My desire to continue her legacy initiated my beginning stages of locating my purpose and fulfilling my dreams. Artistry was always the answer, but it wasn’t until 2017 that I truly understood my place in the industry of beauty.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Growing up in the city of Atlanta, I was exposed to a culture unlike any other. From my visits to the High and Carlos museum, to admiring the graffiti found on the buildings of downtown Atlanta, I was truly inspired by every aspect of art. I grew up watching Bob Ross’ show on PBS, “The Joy of Painting” which inspired me to find ways to share my perceived vision of artistry. I began demonstrating in my own drawings but nothing felt more natural than creating artistry with my clients.
From Makeup Artist, Influencer, and now Entrepreneur, I have had many key experiences that has helped shape my empire. The loss of my grandmother was the primary catalyst in founding III. VI. Artistry. She was my very first client, and the most influential of them all. Her love inspired my need to continue her legacy. In 2017, I gained an angel and the ambition to move mountains. I began servicing Karen Greer and Sharon Reed of CBS 46 News right before my grandmother’s passing. I took on NYFW in 2018, where I provided makeup for countless international designers and models which led to the debut of my lash line. In 2019, I attended a Rolling Out event, where I sat and picked the brains of Roland S. Martin, Tamika D. Mallory, and countless others. To wrap up the year of 2019, I provided makeup for attendees of the 2019 Miss Universe Pageant.
In 2020, I opened my Makeup Studio, Haus of III. VI. and since then have traveled to over 16 states to provide makeup services, for photo shoots, weddings, and more.
From pageants, to television and film, I have touched the faces and lives of so many stunning and influential people. The legacy of my grandmother, Velma O. Compton has inspired me to take a leap of faith and begin creating a life where only my passions exist. I believe that each client should leave my director’s chair feeling empowered and beautiful. My ability to transform my clients by channeling their inner alter ego is what sets me apart from other artists. Enhancing Beauty, Elevating Confidences, and Creating Masterpieces is my daily mantra that I live by.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Art is my inspiration however a good restaurant with amazing food is always at the top of my list! Brunch at Toast on Lenox, viewing an art exhibit at the High Museum and Dinner at Nan for Thai Fine dining would be a great way to start off the vacation. If adventure came to play, catching views from Zip lining at Treetop Quest, or maybe a helicopter tour around the city of Atlanta would satisfy that adrenaline rush! A nice spa day to relax the kinks from the adventures of the great outdoors never disappoints. Especially if we take advantage of the spa at Four Seasons. Depending upon the season, catching a court side NBA game or even tail gating during a NFL event would be the perfect ending of the overall Atlanta Trip!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are many people that I could reference, however the person that had the most influence over my career is my late grandmother, Velma. O. Compton. At an early age, our bond inspired and fueled me to be the creative and free individual that I am today. She was my very first client in whom I put some of my first techniques to the test. With no makeup kit at all, I used her go to rouge and powder to perfect an even complexion, rosy cheek and red lip. In sharing these very moments with her, I grew the confidence to continue my love for beauty.
