We had the good fortune of connecting with Brianna Butler and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Brianna, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Anyone that has accomplished anything great had to first get out of their comfort zone, and take a risk! Even then to continue to grow and maintain success, they have to continue to take risk. I believe the fear of taking risk is what paralyzes so many people from pursuing their dreams and/or bettering themselves in so many ways because they rather cling to the familiar that doesn’t challenge them or force them to give something up or try something new. I refuse to fear risk taking, because time and time again, throughout my life and career, I have proven to myself that the most beautiful things are on the other side of risk. Better, smarter, more impactful versions of myself are on the other side of risk, and when I trust God and myself to jump into the unknown, I am always rewarded with something better than I had before.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am most proud of landing co star roles on a few major television shows and networks such as BET American Soul, The CW Black Lightning, FX Atlanta, Hallmark Channel Christmas Everlasting, and YT Red Step Up. I’m proud of winning awards for my Independent Action Film “JADE” I wrote and starred in, for releasing 2 singles and for working as a professional Dancer with 3 of the nation’s largest sports organizations including Miami Heat, Miami Dolphins, And Florida Panthers all before the age of 30! I’ve gotten to where I Am by believing in myself despite the limitations others try to place on me and having unshakable faith that God will carry me through any obstacle I may face whether it be emotional, physical, or financial. It has definitely not been an easy ride. There have been times where I was on a major show but still working as a waitress selling wings and fries barely being able to pay rent, being hammered over the head with people’s negativity and ridicule on the “reality” of having a career in entertainment. I overcame these obstacles by continuing to follow my gut no matter what and learning to protect my dreams and only share them with people who are dreamers and achievers themselves. Two of the biggest life lessons I’ve learned so far is that there is great power in living in a constant state of gratitude. Life will keep rewarding you with more things to be grateful for and secondly, whatever energy you put out, you 100% Receive back. So I make sure to help others whenever I can, support their dreams, encourage them to keep going, celebrate their successes, lend a listening ear, believe in them, love them and in turn I have been blessed with so many wonderful people who aid me in my journey in all these ways, or just simply send me good energy that fuels my soul. Some friends, some strangers. When people think of me, I want my legacy to be that I always encouraged people to find God and their purpose. To get clear on the natural gifts and talents God has gifted them with and use them to help others while simultaneously bringing themselves joy and success.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
When my friends from out of town visit, some of the top spots I bring them to are a couple of my favorite dinner spots Nikolai’s Roof and Chop’s. We’d do the Southern Gentleman and 10th and Milk and honey for brunch, go to a couple of film screenings around town, and hang out at Sivas and Suite Lounge!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would love to shout out my mentors Lance E Nichols and Carlacia Grant. My wonderful agents Thom, Jennifer, and Laura, and the author of “You are a Badass”. Jen Sincero for first changing my perspective on life and pursuing a career in entertainment.
