We had the good fortune of connecting with Brian Webb and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Brian, what’s the most difficult decision you’ve ever had to make?
Leaving behind a great paying job to help run a new, unproven business. The new business had no salary, commission only, with no guarantees of making money.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My profession today is a talent agent. I’ve worked in film/tv for about 14 years now and it hasn’t always been easy. When I first got in the business I quickly found out there was a pecking order. It was all about who you know and what ‘s your job title. I started as a production assistant. All I did was clean up after people and was always sent on fetch quests. The higher-ups had pressure on them trying to manage time and money, so at times you had to receive their frustration in the worst way. I’ve encountered and seen a lot of racism and sexism. Not all of the sets I worked on were like this, but there were a lot of them. I didn’t really let it affect me, as this has been life for me in general. As time went on, I started working other positions and much longer hours. I kept hustling, taking whatever job I could find. Fortunately for me, better doors kept opening up and I was moving up the ladder. I understand what a lot of people have been through in this industry, so I like to help others when I can. With my current job as a talent director, it’s my job to get all of the actors I’ve signed auditions for film, tv and commercials. There are times I like to take new people in the business under my wings and show them the ropes. At one point, I almost threw in the towel with this industry, but I held on. Don’t give up hope and don’t let a bunch of people telling you “no” defeat you. Your time is coming!
Any great local spots you’d like to shoutout?
The Georgia BeltLine is always a good spot for taking walks, biking, art, food and Atlanta sightseeing. The Georgia Aquarium is great for looking at all the animals in the ocean world. The IMAX at the Mall of Georgia is a must for those big action movies like “The Avengers”. Between Georgia and Tennessee, there are a lot of great hiking spots to see waterfalls and just to be in nature. Then there’s Top Golf and Painted Pin for bowling. The Avalon and The Shops of Buckhead are nice spots for evening outings with friends.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’m so grateful for my parents, family, Pastor Cheryl Peeples and friends (Mark, Rob, Mari and Dana). I don’t take them for granted. Life is so much easier when you have people that are in your corner and not against you. I dedicate this shoutout to you for keeping me lifted up!
