We had the good fortune of connecting with Malia Sioux and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Malia, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I was raised by my father who was a strong artist and musician. It never occurred to me to pursue anything but art.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a tattoo artist and painter living in Columbus GA from Oakland CA. I love to travel and move around but I have found that putting roots down has helped me grow tremendously as a tattooer. It has given me the opportunity to build a steady clientele and watch my progress artistically. Staying in one place is not in my nature so it wasn’t easy but over time life has become more steady and I’ve learned to appreciate that. When my dad passed away my goals kind of shifted towards bringing his art to the light. I just want the world to know and be impacted by my family’s art.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
When people come visit I always hope that I can tattoo them, first stop Black Lotus Tattoo Gallery! I also love to show off the genius art portal known as Pasaquan! Delicious tacos from Tuesday’s Taco Truck… I love to take long drives.. and show off Atlanta’s organic side! From the Land Trust drum circles to R. Thomas. From Apres Diem to live shows watching iNDEEDFACE (my favorite local band)! Most of all I love to show off my house, it is a portal full of music and art. I like to cook a good meal and dive into the paintings and drawings my dad left behind.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Everything started with my dad Tony Machado.
