We had the good fortune of connecting with Brandy Lee and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Brandy, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Hello beautiful people, Hmmm, great question. Honestly for starters I always loved the world of design and interior decor. I’ve always had a great passion for it and it’s beauty of different elements that it brings to a home. I gave design tips to friends and family for many years off and on. However what brought it more to life was when I got laid off during the pandemic last year from a technology company I was workin for, for 4 years. The lay-off came unexpectedly and brought instant fear of worry and anxiety of how I was going to get by without steadily income. However compensation packages were in place praise God, but still looking for a Job position in a pandemic the market was in sunken place as you know. When the world slowed down I got to catch up on rest, relaxing, learning, working out , and working on my first love home decor. We are all in our homes more then ever, so a few people I knew reached out to me via social media and phone to asked for ideas for me to curate for their home space. One thing lead to another then it just took off from there. Even though I found another full time position I decided to still do interior decorating, so I invested into making it real for myself so I got my LLC etc to make it my own. My small business name is Visual Design by Brandy lee. So far it’s been a paid hobby every since Last year that turned into a small business and my hopes and prayers that it grows into something bigger. The best part of this is transforming people’s space into a home and seeing their expressions at the reveal. I didn’t pick design in college but Design choose me through a pandemic.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I would say design choose me through a pandemic through worry and anxiety that set in after losing your job like most households went through. What I mean by that home decor is my escape and passion so it calms me and build creativity in me. I just like going to HomeGoods to look around that’s like my happy place I should say. Lol What sets me apart… hmmm well I should say I’m not a guru in my craft I’m Constantly learning and listening and learning by mistakes of trail and error. However it’s exciting to turn spaces and work with different budgets to accomplish the vision my clients want and desire. I also love collaborating with different decorators to learn from one another. My lessons are never give up on that passion because what’s funny is that when you give up on it for whatever reason, it’s surely will somehow find you again. I like my brand to be known for curating different looks on any budget and knowing that I work with integrity & simplicity to bring your vision to life.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Great question- I love little five points it’s so much culture and different eatery’s, the Avalon is one of my favorites to have a great evening in with wine, food and some jazz. The belt line is great for a overview of the city and the sundial to see more of the city in its greatness. Last but not least the High museum so much beautiful art and textures to remember.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
