We had the good fortune of connecting with Bill Burns and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Bill, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
After I was hurt at work several years ago, I started taking care of reptiles while I was convalescing. After several months I decided that I enjoyed caring for them enough that I wanted to start a business breeding them. I spent several months researching what would be a species that I could both care for enough of them and fit them in the town home that we lived in at the time. Finally I landed on Crested Geckos and went from there. It took a few years before I had enough of them and enough experience to launch the business and start selling at reptile shows.

What should our readers know about your business?
Crested Geckos is a very crowded market because they are so easy to take care of and breed. The biggest thing that sets us apart from our competition is how much time we spend teaching our customers how to take care of them. We provide care sheets with every animal, offer appropriate starter kits to set them up for success and are always willing to answer questions to help down the road.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My wife has supported me from the beginning and as we have grown, she has joined me full time.
