We had the good fortune of connecting with Ayofemi Barnes and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ayofemi, how did you come up with the idea for your business?
During the pandemic shutdown of 2020 I noticed the need for jobs that were not ‘corporate’ based. I realized to truly be successful and to maintain, I would need to be in control of my finances. Not a person that I would never meet, nor had my best interest in mind. Multiple streams of income were crucial at that point, and I went on the hunt for problems that I could solve.

A major problem in my area that needed solved was the unsightly build-up of trash in our neighborhood.

Due to rampant sickness and unemployment, the waste management system was under intense strain. (And still is)

After much research and a leap of faith…Clear it Out! Junk Removal & Hauling was born.

Assisting clients with their garage clear outs and basement clears, helped me understand, just how needed my services are!

Many clients simply needed to make room for family members or sell their homes. There were others that simply did not want to wait months for their items to be disposed.

I understood the assignment and took hold! I never knew that waste management/junk removal would be my calling.

But this industry has allowed me to pursue my philanthropy dreams!

Clear It Out! Junk Removal strives to not only clean up the community but to support it!

Our focus is on children organizations and missions.

We are diligently working with local groups to offer our services as a vocational choice in high school!

By giving high school students and recent grads the opportunity to learn skills, that will propel them to be entrepreneurs and leaders in the community. Lessons in business development, community relations, and on-the job training to protect them from predatory colleges, with their hefty loans and their historical low success rates.

Our efforts of creating opportunities early that will prevent poverty and break the prison pipeline is a mission we hold very dear!!

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned along the way is to never stop pivoting. The definition of pivot is: an adjustment or modification made (as to a product, service, or strategy) in order to adapt or improve.

By understanding the power of pivoting, Clear it Out! has been able to broaden the services that we offer the community.

While starting out solely as a junk removal company, we understood the importance of an inclusive-pivoting strategy as well.

We now have the capability to move clients into their new homes AND take care of the unwanted things left behind.

We have partnered with local house cleaning companies in our area so that we can offer a full buffet of services to our clients. And boy do we love our realtors! We offer property preservation services as well. Such as foreclosure cleanouts, relocation services, removal of old appliances, delivery services and so much more!

In addition, we provide demolition services. Therefore, if a client wants to redo a bathroom space or change out the floors, we can either provide services or referrals! Being a primary asset in our community is the reason pivoting was so crucial to our goals.

Clear It Out! Junk Removal strives to not only clean up the community but to support it!

Our philanthropist core centers on children organizations and missions. This sets us apart from countless other waste management companies. Each quarter we search for an organization that will help further our reach in the community.

Last year, 2021 Clear It Out!, sponsored Jewels, a girls mentorship group for ages 5-18, which is a faith based organization bridging the community with young girls. Lead by founder, Shaquilla Shelton.

This amazing organizations teaches life skills and community services to young girls in the Atlanta Area. They host field trips and expose the girls different career opportunities with hands-on experiences. To reach out: FB@@Jewelsmentoringprogram for more information.

Creating opportunities early, that will prevent poverty and break the prison pipeline is a mission CIO, holds very dear!!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would definitely take them on a tour of the Beltline. A perfect week would be bicycling the trail to one of my favorite restaurants; Buena Vida Tapas. They have the cutest patio and amazing tapas.

The Beltline also hosts free yoga classes and I love to visit the skate park and people watch!
Hopefully their visit in the summer and we can catch an outside event or two! The beltline is now over 10miles long, plenty of time for me and a friend to catch up …while the kids skate, bike, or walk along! I absolutely love the beltline in Atlanta.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I definitely want to shoutout my partner in business and life: Maurice Veazey. He has always motivated me to be my own boss in life.

He encouraged me to let go of crutches and fly! He has always told me I have a boss spirit. I took those words and meditated on them. Me? A boss.. I have been known to be bossy..lol but I understand there is organization and discipline within a true leader & boss.

At that point in time, I had no examples of a woman entrepreneur in my life and could not truly see myself in charge of people. Luckily, I shook off doubt and BELIEVED his words.

I moved on from a dead-end job and begin increasing my financial portfolio. Shortly after I begin work at one of the top insurance company in the U.S. for 4 years.

With his entrepreneur spirit, we have started many business ventures together such as our infamous Boo and Gap catering and BooGap Bagz.

He currently owns a mobile detailing business Veazey Auto Care and he is co-owner of Clear It Out! Junk Removal & Hauling.

Thank you so much for the ongoing encouragement to make my visions a realty!!
