We had the good fortune of connecting with Ashley Means and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ashley, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I chose an artistic career because being able to be creative and use my hands is truly home for me. I love the way it makes me feel, how it takes my mind off things and how in tuned I am with my art and creativity. It is pure joy, my peace, my place of solace, ultimately my everything. How I feel about my work has to be shared with others. I just only hope to bring that exact same joy to my clients.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a travel makeup artist and makeup mentor. What sets me a part from other artist in this industry is that I’m also an educator of makeup. Not only will I beat your face to the gods! But I will teach you how to do it yourself. Every woman wants to be able to put on makeup and feel great about themselves. I’m the person that will teach you that process. I have a long way to go, but getting where I am was not easy. Especially being a wife, a mom of 4 and one special needs child. It took lots of failing, investing and most importantly balance. What I want people to take from my story is that no matter your situation or circumstances IT CAN BE DONE!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Some of my favorite spots in Atlanta are ALL food related, but nevertheless they are all amazing places to go especially with an out of towner. First for breakfast we would do the Silver Skillet. Great food, fast service and the atmosphere is extremely chilled and laid back. Very diverse, which I love! Then after that we can go downtown and get on the Ferris wheel and hang out. Next I’m going to head to Moreland avenue and hit up little Azio’s pizza. Again very diverse, great food and service. Then after that we would just walk around the corner and hit up Endulge Cupcake boutique. They have the best cupcakes and cakes in Atlanta hands down! Then for dinner we could check out BQE Lounge off of Edgewood. Nice scenery for the evening, food, hookah etc.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I have to thank my amazing supporters and mentors of Shadow Body and Aesthetics! Dr. Steven Sawyer and his beautiful wife Michelle. They took a chance on me to have my Makeup & Mimosas classes are their office and it has been a phenomenal experience! I couldn’t ask for better people. I would also like to thank my mother Melanie Haynie of Lasting Impressions Events. She has put together and decorated every Makeup Means event with such elegance and class. My husband Justin Means of J Means Photography, who has been my makeup photo booth photographer. I couldn’t make any of this happen without them! I’m eternally grateful!
