We had the good fortune of connecting with Arian Foster and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Arian, what’s the most important lesson your business/career has taught you?
I’ve learned that instead of focusing on the risk and sacrifices, it is important to focus on what you’re gaining. For me, I looked at all the things that I would be gaining by following my dreams and achieving my goals. This was a huge motivator for me because any thoughts of taking risks did not involve losing something but rather gaining something that was very important to me.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Growing up my mom worked at an advertising agency as a copywriter. I was intrigued every time I went to work with her. Sitting in meetings, shadowing the designers as they created content and edited commercials.
It all started with MySpace, BlackPlanet and CrushSpot. If you know, you know! We were coding and customizing digital platforms and didn’t even realize it. All throughout high school and college, I took visual imaging courses and dabbled with Adobe programs.
I was a bit intimidated to create for others because I wasn’t sure that I could execute someone else’s vision. I would study photoshop techniques on YouTube and it became fun to me and the more I practiced, the better I got.
It’s satisfying to curate a visual representation of an idea, and the feedback is priceless!
I want the world to know that Arian Daily is a visionary who values individuality and creative expression.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I absolutely love my hometown, Detroit. There’s so many unique spots that even as a native, you would still be surprised.
I would start with a few brunch spots, Honest John’s is one of my favorites. I love their breakfast burrito and they have great frozen mimosas. We’ll hit up Grandma Bobs for pizza, my favorite food. Then it’s off to Wine tasting at Pure Vin! Detroit is filled with a variety of local businesses so shopping is a must! There’s tons of entertainment, concerts, day parties, comedy shows and art exhibits.
The most interesting things to do in Detroit is eat and shop local. We have some of the best comfort food around and there’s a variety of black owned businesses to support.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to dedicate this shoutout to my mom. She is ALWAYS in my corner supporting me and all of my decisions. My optimism and risk taking comes from her. I also want to thank my best friend Malaika for being so supportive and determined. It’s a blessing to have a friend that shares the same values and determination as you! Also all of my clients, they trust me and allow me to create freely. I am inspired by each person that I work with, as their stories of entrepreneurship align with mines and we connect on a business-minded level. It really keeps me motivated!
