We had the good fortune of connecting with April Peterson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi April, can you tell us about an impactful book you’ve read and why you liked it or what impact it had on you?
A book titled, “The Secret,” impacted me the most. Right before I started my business, I quit my job. I needed direction, a good push towards my goals. This book taught me to manifest my own destiny and create everything I want along the way. I realized I control my outcomes.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m an image consultant, specializing in Hair, Makeup, Special Effects Makeup and Wardrobe styling. I can transform my clients from an everyday glam look to a bruised/scarred look. I am most proud of being showcased in Top magazines and Movies for millions to see, this recognition has enabled me to be in films myself. Having great people who sometimes believed in my work as much, if not more, than myself is what helped me get to the professional level I have reached today.
This has not been an easy road. When I began, I did plenty of self-reflecting when faced with how I would maintain my life and pursue my goals, all without a steady stream of income or investments. To overcome the challenge, I had faith in knowing I had the power to manifest my own destiny. The most important lesson I have learned along the way, is to be the change you want to see. In a saturated field, it is easy to lose sight of yourself when you see others excelling. No matter what, what is for you is for you. I would love the world to know that my brand is about showing beauty inside and out, “Aprilized” means turning ordinary to Extraordinary! We want everyone to know the possibilities are endless when it comes to transforming who you are. Let me “Aprilize” you!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
You cannot go wrong with Waffle House, or other poplar brunch spots. I enjoy sites like the Trap Museum, and Coca-Cola Factory. At night, you have lounge options like Ten ATL, with live performances, drinks and hookah. Piedmont Park is a great place to explore and get some fresh air. You can vibe over Mellow Mushroom pizza while relaxing in the sun. Visit the Krog Street tunnel to see amazing art. The Jackson Street Bridge gets you a great photo of the city. Last, but CERTAINLY not least, Stone Mountain Trail puts you back in touch with nature.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I dedicate my shoutout to my son Jamari and my Mother Sandreaus Adams. I just wanted to show them that Dreams are Real!
