We had the good fortune of connecting with APRICITY and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi APRICITY, what is the most important factor behind your success?
Having genuine love and passion for what we do and for everyone in our group. We aim to do everything in love and kindness in a world where sometimes these are hard to find. Fostering trust within each of us has helped us communicate and synergize together as a team, which subsequently helps us perform to the best of our ability. Knowing that your team is there for you is one of our main motivators. Furthermore, we believe that having healthy relationships with other dancers we meet brings together a safe community for K-Pop dancers! And lastly, we recognize how important it is to simply have fun while doing what we do.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
As APRICITY, we are a dance team based in Edmonton consisting of 22 individuals who have a passion for dance and are inspired by Korean Pop choreography. We have been posting a variety of dance covers, reactions to K-pop music, and performance videos on our Youtube channel since 2015. In addition to local performances and competitions, APRICITY has participated in several dance events within Canada and globally in the past few years. We like to think that we all were connected and brought together for a reason, one of the biggest reasons being K-Pop and dance. Back in 2015, K-Pop was not the worldwide phenomenon it is today. We bonded over that and wanted to change the way K-Pop was perceived via dance. We are most excited for the growth of the K-Pop scene locally and internationally and the many opportunities to come especially now that K-Pop has become so well known and trendy.
Every individual member within APRICITY has great talent, whether it is dancing, singing, leadership, design, production – anything and everything under the sun. We’re proud to be a self-sufficient group that never backs down from any challenge. It was not the easiest journey but each hardship we’ve experienced over the past 7 years has made a significant impact to shape who we are today as a team. The most important things are building the foundation of respect, trust, and attentiveness to our art. Once we understood our purpose within the team and intention with every project, it was a lot easier to communicate, problem-solve and decision-make together. Our attention to detail and care for each other sets us apart from others.

APRICITY started out as an escape for us to have fun and share our interests in K-Pop and dance and has now grown into a family that wants to share our genuineness through our creativity. We do our best to stay grounded and remind ourselves of our beginnings; it helps keep us eager for the future as we grow our never-ending love for dance, our team, and the community. Please continue to look forward to what more APRICITY can show you in the future as we grow as dancers, as human beings, and as a team, to bring joy and inspiration to those around us! Thank you for the opportunity to share our story, we are eternally grateful for every opportunity that comes our way!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
As a group we love to eat at HanJan (genuinely one of our favourite restaurants) and sing our hearts out at karaoke after! We also like to take strolls in our city’s parks and ride our longboards, or walk our dogs! After a long day, we might go to Teapsy for bubble tea, or find some bingsoo!
There’s also a lot of festivals in Edmonton during the summer and winter. Our group always looks forward to Animethon and the Heritage Festival because we get to perform on stage for these events!
Outside of Edmonton, a nice trip to the mountains to Jasper and Banff to take some hikes and sightsee during the summer months, or to go skiing/snowboarding in the winter is a must.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
We could write a book of people who deserve our recognition; giving credit where credit is due is extremely important to us. First and foremost, we want to thank everyone who supports us and watches our performances and videos. We would not be where we are without our fans, friends, and family. We’ve also had the opportunity to work with some amazing partners, such as HanJan Edmonton, Soju Karaoke and Bar, and Mercy Cosmetics! We also wish to thank all of the K-Pop cover groups in Edmonton who also aim to bring the K-Pop community in our city together! Finally, as far off as they may seem, we would like to thank the K-Pop artists and everyone involved with their projects for giving us music, choreography, entertainment, and joy. As they are our inspirations, they deserve all the love and respect.
