We had the good fortune of connecting with Anthony Woods and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Anthony, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
I think risk is necessary for growth. In my life and career as a photographer, I realized I became stale when I didn’t take risks. After 6 months I stepped out and started pursuing the art I saw in the world rather that be boudoir or the traditional portrait photography vs trying to copy the other photographer. I saw major growth in my business as well as my personal life when I took the risk to not worry about what the next thought about me. Not only growth in my business but also growth in my confidence. If you walk around with out taking risk you’re living in a comfortable place, in comfortability we find complacency!
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
That’s actually a great question. What sets me apart from others is the same thing that separates them from me, and that’s our creative eye and how our brain works. I use to think oh I want to be like Daniel Green or Chris Cavanaugh but once I realized that I have my own style and creativeness I have to explore its when my level of professionalism started evolving. It seems like its easy but sometimes its not especially when you start comparing yourself to other creatives. That lesson sometimes comes with hurt and pain but will make you better in the long run. Being authentically you separates you from your peers. I say peers because the only competition you have is yourself.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to thank all the creatives in Charleston, SC for welcoming with open arms when I first started. Secondly to my brother, Cedric Cobb for always sharing knowledge and dropping gems on me in the area of video., I also want to thank Brandon Lewis of Peaceful Visions for teaching me off camera flash this last year it definitely changed the game in my skill. Last but not least I want to thank Pastor Kris Dillard of Marked Church for pushing me when even when I wanted to give up.
