We had the good fortune of connecting with Andrea Peay and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Andrea, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
The process behind starting my business was completely coincidental. I stumbled upon the artistry of makeup and immediately fell in love. The freedom I felt when creating looks was like none other. It was the first time I was able to truly materialize my creativity which furthered my passion for makeup! My determination to perfect my craft was filled with early mornings and sleepless nights and it was honestly so worth it.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Surprisingly I would have never imagined myself in the field I’m in now. Makeup started off as a simple hobby, just something I could do for fun. It wasn’t until I understood that if I was going to work until retirement, I had to pursue a career I was passionate about. Something that I knew God called me to do. Additionally, the more I delved into makeup, the more I realized how therapeutic it was for me. It helped minimize my anxiety and depression when life felt overwhelming and I couldn’t keep my head above the waves. That’s when my I fell head over heels with this form of art. I actually come from one of the roughest neighborhoods in Brooklyn, NY: Brownsville. The crime rate is super high and the literacy rate isn’t where it should be. In Brownsville we’re groomed to be in constant “fight or flight” mode to survive on a daily basis. I also engage in “fight or flight”: I fight as hard as I can to perfect my craft to leave situations that will keep me in a rut. I never wanted to allow my environment to dictate how far I could or couldn’t go in life. So with a hardworking family and God at my side, I knew that quitting was never an option.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
