We had the good fortune of connecting with Amber Boyd and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Amber, can you share a quote or affirmation with us?
My favorite quote is “The best is yet to come!” This quote gives me hope. It lets me know that even on my lowest days, there is something to look forward to. When I am ready to give up, I reflect back on this quote and it keeps me going.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My business is New Wave Apparel LLC. It was founded in August 2020. Our mission is to provide the latest trending clothing and accessories for men and women at an affordable price. We value our commitment to customers, honesty, trust, and community. We conduct business according to the same values. We hope that one day New Wave Apparel LLC will become a national clothing brand. Our slogan is “Can you ride the wave?” The wave is the latest trend. What makes our business unique is that we cater to our customers. Our customers are our number 1 priority. We strive to make an easy and stress free checkout experience for our customers. We answer questions about products in a timely manner, provide a detailed product description, and hand write a personal thank you note to our customers for each order. We are truly client centered. Another unique thing is that our models on our website are regular everyday people. We want our brand to be a representation of our customers and be authentic. We also promote all body types on our site. We carry sizes s-3x and hope to expand to 5x in the future. I am most excited about the new branding and logo that we received in January of this year. This new logo has really captured the aesthetic that New Wave Apparel brings. I’m looking forward to seeing it come to life in some projects that we are working on for the future. (Sign up for our email list to stay informed) Getting to this point in my business journey has been hard. Now that I am back in school, trying to balance school, work, my business, and personal obligations have been tough. I made the conscious decision last year for the month of November and half of December to put a pause to my business ventures to focus on finishing strong for the fall semester of school. This was a tough decision to make but it had to be done. I finished my semester with good grades and was able to return back to my business with a fresh mind when it was over. This ultimately helped to create the new and improved New Wave Apparel that you see today. It was a great decision for me all around. Some lessons that I’ve learned while traveling on this entrepreneur journey is to keep going! At times, I felt like people weren’t interested in my products. I judged their interest based on the amount of likes I received on social media. I almost gave up. I discovered that just because people don’t like your posts on social media doesn’t mean that they aren’t watching you. I’ve had plenty of people come up to me and my family randomly asking about clothes they have seen me post online. The key is to be consistent and likes, shares, and traffic to your site will follow. There is no timing on success. Stay in your own lane and run your own race! I want the world to know how far New Wave Apparel has come. I started out by selling clothes out of the trunk of my SUV. Every night I would take the boxes of inventory out to update the inventory count on my phone and load the boxes back in my car in the morning before I went to work. I turned my parents’ 1,040 sqft. home into my work space. Oftentimes I took up the kitchen with my photoshoots. I took a white bed sheet and hung it over the back door in our kitchen to make a nice backdrop for my photos. My room and the hallway served as storage space. This progressed to me selling my clothes on the street to setting up at the flea market and at pop-up shops. Now I have a website and occasionally set up at different vending events. I also have an official backdrop and photo equipment. I have almost 3,000 followers across social media and I am making preparations for a physical location for when I finish school. New Wave Apparel is growing and progressing with time. I am proud of myself and thankful for everyone who has supported me thus far. Hold on to your seats and ride on this journey with me because THE BEST IS YET TO COME!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would take them to Ponce City Market. They have great food, drinks, and good vibes all in one place. We would definietly have to take a trip to Lenox Square and Cumberland Mall for shoes and accessories to add to our outfits from New Wave Apparel. We would also have to go downtown and spend some time there. It’s always something to do downtown.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
