We had the good fortune of connecting with Amanda Hunt and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Amanda, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I have been in the apparel industry for 15 years, working in design and product development. I have a specialty in Intimate apparel. Once becoming a mom, I realized that the maternity and nursing industry was lacking thoughtfully designed and modern nursing bras for moms. Because I had the professional experience and personal breastfeeding experience with my 2 children, I thought it was the perfect opportunity to share my talents with the world and bring something new to the mom community. With this business I plan to make a difference in the way women feel during their postpartum experience. Davin & Adley is a brand by moms for moms.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I use this brand as an expression of my feminine creative personality. I blend the current trends in fashion with motherhood and create beautiful pieces that are both functional and exciting. What makes Davin & Adley unique is that I am a breastfeeding mother myself. Everything I put out for customers has been tested on myself and a group of breastfeeding moms. The personal experience sets this brand apart from others because I get it, and I am using the product everyday too. I have a very different vision for my designs. I want the product to create emotion and make women feel great about themselves. It’s more than just a garment, it’s part of mom’s self care and love for her postpartum body. I’m proud of myself that I have been able to work hard for so many years and finally make this happen. It’s not easy branching off from the corporate world and starting something on your own. I had a vision and I have continued to stick with it everyday even through the challenges. As long as I keep the end goal in mind, I have been able to overcome any issues. What I love tell others is that I am not a big time CEO that is just out there to make money. I am a mom looking to help other moms with my designs. No matter how large we grow, we will always have that mindset.
Any great local spots you’d like to shoutout?
I live local to Philadelphia and went to college in the city, but I am not a city girl! When friends and family come to visit we enjoy lounging around at a backyard bbq with the kids playing in the yard. We are very close to our families so we love including the kids and letting them grow up with their cousins. A perfect day for us would be to visit our local farm and take the kids for a hayride and to see the animals and enjoy time outdoors at the park and playground. We’re relaxed and simple, but we love it! My husband and I do love to go out with other couples to local independent restaurants and always enjoy trying something new. Italian cuisine is absolutely our go to! Mama also enjoys her glass of wine!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I have so many different people to be thankful for, but I want to first and foremost give a huge shoutout to all the lactation consultants and doulas out there helping new moms succeed with breastfeeding from day 1. I almost didn’t end up breastfeeding when I had my first baby. I was struggling emotionally and physically trying to make things work. If it wasn’t for the lactation consultants that worked with me at the hospital and support group after birth, I wouldn’t have ended up loving breastfeeding. Starting this modern brand specifically for moms is my gift back to this amazing mothers community. I have found such a loving and supportive community by connecting with other moms out there. My brand has grown by word of mouth and when one mom loves something, she shares it with all of her friends and I am incredibly grateful!
