We had the good fortune of connecting with Alycia Tulloch and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alycia, let’s start by talking about what inspires you?
I’m inspired by God, and I’m inspired by people. My family. My friends. Random people with whom I come into contact. Images I see in the media. Music created by various artists. Movies I watch in different settings. I believe anything and everything can be a source of inspiration if seen through a certain lens, but I mostly believe those who are inspired tend to inspire others. I enjoy the challenge of taking inspiration and turning it into something powerful. I like figuring out the “why” and the “how” and turning those answers into something that can benefit myself and my community. My best ideas come to me after I’ve had time to sit and reflect. These periods of reflection allow me to really delve into why a movie, a book, or a conversation struck me in the way it did. From this reflection I’m able to then decide how I want to move forward. Do I want to volunteer my time to a likeminded organization? Do I want to organize an event to reflect the values of myself and my community? Or do I want to sit, pray, and wait for God to open new doors that I haven’t yet imagined? No matter what the final product would be, it’s important to remain inspired by the world even when the world leaves a lot to be desired.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to shoutout everyone who’s ever inspired me personally and professionally. To all the creatives who come up with an idea and work tirelessly to make it a reality. To everyone tired of the status quo trying to make a positive change in society.
