We had the good fortune of connecting with Allegra Joanna Mbwetshangol and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Allegra Joanna, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I felt unsure for a while. Not of the impact it would produce, but of how I could make it possible and reach the vision I held. As a student, I was scared of how to find enough funds. For this reason, I am eternally grateful to have my parents, family, and close friends who support and embrace my vision as their own. Every time I lacked, they stepped in to make sure the business would move forward.

Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
Born to shine offers fashionable and affordable clothes and accessories to people of all ages. The funds collected are allocated into donations to orphans, widows, and needy people in the Democratic Republic of Congo. As it is growing, we are aspiring to provide help internationally. Born to shine is an organization that is based on Isaiah chapter 60 verse 1 and Isaiah 58 verses 6 to 12. The purpose is to bring light around us by serving others. Launching my business as a student was the most significant challenge. But through it, I learned early on to balance the different aspects of my life. I ensure that not only my business is flourishing, but that I am booming and my student’s life as well. It is all the results of prayer, perseverance, consistency, courage, hard work, faith, and principally trust in God.

I am most excited about the new collection’s launching that my team and I are preparing. We are certain that the people will love it and cannot wait to present it to the public!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
People who know me personally know how much I love food! Breakfast, brunch, lunch, dinner, snacks, name it and I am down! I would bring my best friend to a place where there is plenty of good food and interesting attractions, such as an attraction park, a restaurant next to a beach area, or the closest Chick-Fil-A (haha)!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
In my story, the highest shoutout I can dedicate goes out to God. He is the one this vision is based on and the one who keeps it alive. He is the one who sustains it and the one who ensures its progress. Not only does He deserve a little credit, but He is also worthy of all of it. My success would never exist if it was not because of Him.
