We had the good fortune of connecting with Alexius Wright and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alexius, other than deciding to work for yourself, what was the single most important decision you made that contributed to your success?
My ultimate goal is to break generational curses. I was born to a teenage mother and a convict father. I can definitely say I had to learn the art of a “hustler” at a young age. I don’t have children of my own yet however, I have nephew, Isaiah, He’s 3 and a god sister , Kennedi, she’s 8 , They both look up to me. They watch what i do and how I move. They see the freedom I have , the position I hold in the family. All of that is my “why” . I want show them that you can have money and not be a criminal and you can be rich and not lower yourself to reach that goal. I am very passionate about the perception they have towards me.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
So , The Boss Shop LLC (TBS) is my business. We specialize in creative branding for small start ups or established businesses. TBS was formed in my college dorm in September 2018 and we have been thriving ever since. What sets me about from other graphic design services? This is a question that I don’t get a lot because you know the answer just by looking at my brand. The brands I build are unique and tailored to the specific client that I am working on. My business prides itself in providing branding options that other companies wouldn’t touch such as illustration logos and in house printing. The Boss Shop has its own lane that we dominate well. Clients often recommend us because of the three p’s: Personality , Professionalism, & Price .
This journey has not been easy but it is definitely worth it. I started September 15, 2018. I didn’t make any sales until March 2019. I would do work for people and they not pay in the end. That took a huge toll on my finances and certain relationships I was in . I lost a lot of friends and even ruined some relationships with family. After March 2019 , I started investing in myself by taking classes to prefect my craft. Within this process, I got scammed and lost money. I didn’t give up .
How did I get where I am professionally? Well, starting a business in college was a good thing for me. I was able to market on campus and grow with my community. I took business classes as electives. YouTube became my best friend! Currently , I work full-time as a Probation Officer , I’m very vocal about my career in the justice system and it helps me build trust as well.
The year 2020 was the premier year for my business because I did the work. I studied my brand and pray and God provided. The biggest lesson I learned , “All money isn’t good money” . Everyone isn’t meant to be your client. Find your target audience and make it happen.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
