We had the good fortune of connecting with Alexandria Poole and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alexandria, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
My work-life balance is something that I struggle with a lot. Like most people I work 40-hours a week as a Sales & Marketing Assistant and work on my business on the side. It is really difficult juggling the two, especially since I just started my business a month ago. When I get off work many times I do not stop working mentally. Recently, I have worked on that by incorporating yoga and journaling after work. I’ll admit I have slacked off the past month. But, for the past year it was something I did consistently after work and in the mornings on the weekends. In my opinion, balance is life and something we can all improve on. I feel when I am balanced, I am present and I can do my best work.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I launched House of Aluxandria Luxurious Extensions about two months ago. I sell Indian hair extensions. A couple of my close friends told me years ago that I should sell hair extensions but I told her no because it was something everyone was doing. So about two years ago I said why not give it a try. It took this long to launch because I was my last year of college and I wanted to focus on graduating first and also I did not have the money to launch. My parents always told me if it’s my dream then I have to make it happen. Once I was able to save enough to get some inventory it’s like everything fell in place.

I don’t want to just sell hair extensions I want to inspire women to be “cool confident and fearless.” Which is my brands slogan. I had it on my vision board for last year. I had not specific intention to use it for my brand. Being confident and taking risks is something that I have had to constantly work on! I want ALL women to feel and be their best selves while wearing my hair! Quality hair of course, which is what I pride myself in. I am so excited about building my brand. I do not just want to sell hair, I eventually want to transition to accessories, clothes hence why I called it “House of” I will introduce these things when the time comes.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Being from the metro Detroit area there are actually a lot of cool things to do. I haven’t gone out much the past year since it was a pandemic and prior to I was away at college and did not come home much so I will do my best with this lol! Recently, I went to this place called Detroit Vineyards which is a wine tasting place downtown that has amazing wine! For breakfast I would take her to Toast or Dime Store. For lunch we could do something quick like Detroit 75 Kitchen or Mexican Food. For dinner I’d probably take her to this restaurant called Lumen or Imaginate which is brand new. There are many places to hang out like Royal Oak or downtown Detroit.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Thank you to my parents for instilling in me a strong work ethic, grace, and to always remain humble.
