We had the good fortune of connecting with Ahmez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ahmez, alright, let’s jump in with a deep one – what’s you’re definition for success?
By definition, success is generally defined as “the accomplishment of a desired goal or the attainment of wealth, position, or fame.” I personally define success by inspiring other humans to reach their own goals by reaching mine. I find it more important than material goods. I believe in helping others attain their aspirations in return makes me the successful person I have grown to be. As I continue on my journey to the “top,” I feel most successful when I bring my true friends along with me. That, to me, is success.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Ahmez: The Artist.
First and foremost, I always refer to myself as an ‘artist’ because I have a plethora of things I find myself able to do.
I am the producer, the director, the talent, the consultant, the visionary, and much more.
My first love will always be theatre! Ever since I can remember, I have always loved being on stage. This love began in elementary school and it’s still my happiest place on earth. I WILL be on Broadway one day! GO THESPIANS!

I think being multi-hyphenate is what sets me apart from others. I do NOT like being put into a box or category.
It is just not Ahmez. I have numerous things I have done in my life (Elementary Educator, Dance Teacher, Flight Attendant, Banker) that have simply prepared me for my future, even when I did not know the “why” at the time.

I am most proud of the fact I have not given up, even when I’ve wanted to several times.
In our society, you’re “taught” to go to school, get a degree, land a job, work for years until retirement, then simply exist after that. That was NEVER a part of my plan. As a creative, I must feed my creativity in order to feel genuinely happy. I am proud to say I followed my own path and the path was never a straight one.

I am most excited to see how far I go in this creative industry and how many people I can take along on this journey with me. I know what goals I have aligned for myself, but I am always willing to “sway with the palm trees” and go wherever the wind takes me.

It has never been easy to get where I am today! I have worked in several different industries, which collectively has given me the transferable soft skills I carry with me. I have worked three jobs at once, just to make ends meet. I have made huge sacrifices, which led to more difficult times. I overcame each and every challenge that came my way by leaning on my loved ones, manifesting my life out loud, finding joy in the small things, and always telling the next person what my goals were. You never know who is listening. Speak your dream life into existence!

I want the world to believe in themselves and go for whatever it is they want in life! Even when it is tough, always try your best to remember your “why.”
I set a goal for myself at 10 years old and it was to one day work with Tyler Perry. This was the first time I saw one of his stage plays and it inspired me to one day be as successful as he was growing to be at that time.
REPRESENTATION MATTERS!!!
The little black boy in me knew there was something I aspired to be, as the stage was also finding its way to my heart. Fast forward over two decades later and I am more than happy to share I have worked on 4 seasons of 2 hit television shows and 1 Netflix film at Tyler Perry Studios. Manifest what you want, take action to get it, and it is yours!

Most important lesson I can give to the dreamers out there:
“A CLOSED MOUTH NEVER GETS FED!”
Speak your dreams out loud. Share your dreams with others you trust. It may just change your life…for the better! 😉

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to shoutout my sister, Ashonti Zepree, for being my right hand since ’94. She is a very level-headed, caring, and protective human. She has been my voice of reason when times were tough. She has been my protector when life threw me obstacles. She has been by my side since childhood and I am forever grateful for our close-knit relationship. Pursuing this creative career together has been one of the hardest things we have both done, but it is so much easier to handle at times because we have each other to lean on. We have been writing, producing, and directing our own art since elementary school. What we once thought was a “game” or “hobby” has always been more to us than we could have ever imagined. She is an actress located in Atlanta, Georgia and I can’t wait for the world to witness her greatness on the BIG SCREEN very soon! I love you, Sha! <3
