We had the good fortune of connecting with Agustin Zubillaga and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Agustin, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Working as an artist/songwriter/producer, I’m limited in my income generation capacity by my time and availability, so I started to look for options to generate revenue that didn’t rely on my presence. I’ve always liked teaching and mentoring, so it was a natural progression to start a Music Publishing Company and putting toghether a songwriting course.

What should our readers know about your business?
Agus Songs Publishing is a joint venture with Sony Music Publishing. It’s a boutique publishing company that signs, mentor and promotes up and coming songwriters in the Spanish speaking market. It was founded by Latin Grammy award winning songwriter Agustin Zubillaga (me). I started it as a way to explore my teaching and mentoring vocation. I’ve been writing songs for 25 years, and now it’s time to foster and cultivate the next generation of music makers.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I live in Mexico City, so first thing would be breakfast overlooking the Zocalo, the city central square, followed by a visit to the Templo Mayor, then take Reforma avenue to Bosque de Chapultepec, to the Chapultepec Caslte, the zoo and the Museum of Anthropolohy. We would finish the day by dining at michelin star restaurant Pujol.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My shoutout is to Pat Pattison, and his book “Writing Better Lyrics”, who’s knowledge is the foundation of my songwriting.
