We had the good fortune of connecting with Aaliyah Womack and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Aaliyah, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My thought process while starting my business to be completely honest was “I have nothing to lose” and nothing beats a failure but a try. I was at a crossroad in my life and although I love doing what I do I did not feel appreciated working for others. I wanted to be able to spend quality time with my young son and take control of my own life and flourish in my passion for aesthetics building my own brand and something I could be proud of. It was the best decision I have ever made and I don’t regret the journey through good and bad times of building my business because it has made me the woman that I am today.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I am the owner of Cristian Michael Aesthetics and I chose to name my brand after my son because he is my “WHY” which gave me the drive to pursue my own dreams of owning my own business. I absolutely love being an Esthetician and making my client’s feel good with results driven services. What sets me apart from others is that I demonstrate passion in what I do and take the time out to make all of my clients happy and feel valued and they appreciate when a person is genuine and not just treating them as just a number. People like personable experiences and taking the time out to teach them how to care for their skin and educating them on skincare is something that my client’s truly appreciate. I am in skincare and hair removal because it is my passion and it makes me happy. When you do what you love it doesn’t feel like work at all and it shows through my customer service and interaction through the many people that I touch. I got to where I am today by being consistent and having a NEVER QUIT attitude even though it was not easy through the years I made sure that I had the tenacity which kept me going. Word of mouth by referrals from my client’s also played a huge impact and having a social media presence which I am grateful for. I have learned so much about business through the years and have taken each lesson and never allowed it to stop me even when I wanted to a times. Instead I learned from my experiences and used each learning block to build my business.
I want people to know that whatever it is that you want out of life, if you can see it you can achieve it. Just focus , set a goal, have tunnel vision and don’t be too hard on yourself because the journey is the best part and enjoy it. Don’t be so fast to get to the finish line because the lessons and experiences are going to mold you into a beautiful masterpiece. Take it all in.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I am pretty much a homebody but If I had a good friend coming into town I would take them to some of my favorite restaurants for some amazing food and cocktails at Hal’s, Sage, Mojave, Le Bilboquet just to name a few. I would love to check out Krog Street Market and the scenery more often so that would be the perfect time. I also enjoy going to The Avalon in Alpharetta.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I have always looked up to Nikole M. Pettus, of Van Michael Salon in Buckhead. I worked with her at the salon when I first moved to Atlanta and I use to watch her work and I was so amazed at how she transformed brows and enchanced clients beauty with her flawless makeup application. She is such a class act in my eyes and I have always admired her work ethic. .
