We had the good fortune of connecting with Maria Hill and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Maria, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I think of taking risks like a challenge. You have to decide if the reward is worth the challenge for you. In my 20’s I wanted to move across the country from a small town in Massachusetts to Los Angeles, CA. I took a chance that I might not get work, or enjoy living in such a big city. It all worked out and I’m glad I took the risk because I enjoyed many years in LA doing swimsuit and fitness print modeling, music videos, and TV commercials. I wouldn’t trade in my experiences for anything. When I moved to Atlanta it was also a risk, but I knew I was on the right path from the beginning. I got to work right away, made great friends and met my husband here. Leaving my corporate job after 8 years was a risk, but I couldn’t be happier.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
As a content creator there are many challenges to get started and stay consistent. There are so many details for every post or video. You have to dedicate blocks in your schedule for your creative time. The goal for my blog and YouTube Channel, Sweet Life Housewife, is to share tips on fashion, lifestyle and travel.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Ooh la la! Where to begin? Ponce City Market is fun they have a mini golf on the rooftop and have some unique stores like 18.21 Bitters for all of you bourbon drinkers, Batter Cookie Dough Counter is a guilty pleasure and they have a vegan option too! A few of the clothing stores have sustainable clothing which is very cool. They have many eating options there as well. Lunch and shopping in Buckhead is always fun too! The High museum is great for a rainy day or the Atlanta Botanical Garden on a sunny day. Of course a day on Lake Lanier can’t be beat either! South City Kitchen is a must for lunch or dinner either in midtown or Avalon (good shopping here too)..Oh and don’t forget Cafe Intermezzo for an after dinner drink or coffee and dessert!.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My faith, family and husband all deserve a shoutout! Whenever you take a leap of faith it is a blessing to know you have love, support and encouragement!
