We had the good fortune of connecting with Despues Green and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Despues, what habits do you feel play an important role in your life?
What a great question! I have been blessed with an unrelenting desire to learn and make progress. So the inherent habit of seeking education mostly through learning others’ experiences has helped me understand the “whys” of a lot of things. I am one of those people who, many times, have to have very sound, objective reasons why I’m doing something in order for me to understand what type of progress and thus end goal I’m working toward. I remember when I stumbled upon “Rich Dad, Poor Dad” by Robert Kiyosaki and Rich Dad said “Your issue is that you’ve run out of ways to make money.” — monumental for me. I read “The 5AM Club” by Robin Sharma, and it provided me with reasons why waking up earlier in the morning makes for a productive day. And once I put into practice waking up the first time I wake up (which is always super early), doing my work, and then coming to realize it’s still not even 11AM, I felt empowered that I could do more.

There are a lot of things that I deem to be very basic (because they are human) that I didn’t begin to learn until just a couple years ago and they have contributed greatly to the amount of progress I have made today.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I am not from LA…. and I barely know my own hometown, so please excuse me if this answer just sucks, but we would just go outside and interrupt a bunch of people’s day. That’s honestly my favorite thing to do. Venice Beach, Santa Monica, Hollywood, Downtown LA, Cherry Beach, shake some people up for a change, you know? It would probably mess with my best friend too if they weren’t used to doing stuff like this, but yeah.

I do enjoy eating (maybe it’s my Taurus Moon, who knows?) so I would show them the PB&J Cornflake French Toast from Morning After Breakfast… and maybe an Acai bowl or something even though I’m allergic to them, apparently… anything for my best friend. 🙂

We would also HAVE to shoot a video together somewhere for one of my songs, because if you’re my best friend, you’re going to know about my music and you’re going to bang with it, so… The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I am grateful for every headache, every naysayer, every dark thought. I am grateful for every friend, acquaintance, item, opportunity I have lost. I am grateful for every trauma, as every bit of the human experience contributes to my development.

I am grateful for everyone who has maintained faith in me throughout this journey, who has seen me in some of my darkest, unequipped days and perhaps could not or did not know how they could help me. I do feel obliged to name some because I think about some of them and they don’t know that I know that they are trying to see me.

LordMoshGod, Shadae, Kid Uzimaki, HiiKwality, Rich, Matrix Mars Madonna, Gabryiel, Vou$, Dawit, Nate, Zir, Civic Dream.

To all of my siblings, who are even greater than me.

And to everyone else that I may encounter in the future — here’s to you….

… Oh yeah, and of course the Voyage fam!
