Meet J. Buck: Singer/Songwriter/Performer/Social-Worker

We had the good fortune of connecting with J. Buck and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi J., what do you want people to remember about you?
When I think about the word “legacy” I think about my purpose for being on this planet as a creative. My purpose is to bring people together in love and truth and music is one of the ways that I do that. So, if there is one thing that I want people to remember about me as a man, it’s that I love people. I am a human being and therefore nothing human is foreign to me.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I have been performing and releasing music independently and professionally for the last 7 years and it has not been without challenges. As an independent artist, it is difficult getting booked for gigs. I have had to put my own money up to rent out venues and put on my own shows to gain on-stage experience. Studio time, travel expenses, artwork, clothing and merchandise all cost money and I have had to work numerous jobs to cover those costs. The sacrifices I’ve made, led to the release of three projects and multiple tours, including my 2018 Love Matters European Tour. The biggest lesson that I’ve learned is that nothing is impossible. There are 24 hours in a day and each second counts towards reaching your own goals as an artist. Lastly, don’t let anyone else define what success is for you.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to dedicate this to my parents Kenneth and Elizabeth Buck. My parents surrounded me with so much diverse music growing up and always encouraged me to explore my musical gift. Growing up in Memphis, I was always surrounded by the temptation of crime and gang activity, but my parents went the extra mile to make sure that I was involved in as much as possible to feed my purpose and starve my distractions. I am forever grateful to live as fruit from my mighty family tree.
