We had the good fortune of connecting with Nicholas Grier and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nicholas, what inspires you?
I am inspired by Life, I have a deep love for sceneries and observing objects, people, emotions, and just being open minded to allow my mindset to grow, If you allow your mind to grow and not be close minded, you can process things easier and get inspired by everything. Sometimes I would think to myself is the term “inspired” similar to the basic term knowledge? Due to the fact that whatever inspires me I gain knowledge and Incorporate whatever I learn to allow me to grow as a creative individual, Being a Creative you should always be open to let anything inspire you .

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am currently a Art major in Valdosta State University, this major has helped and forced me to grow in many different way’s as far as creatively, professionally and many more reason’s, I try my hardest to relate everything i do in my classes and in school in general to Fashion , because at my school there is no fashion major so I am trying my hardest to persuade everybody Fashion is Art, the same as Art is Fashion. I started off coming from Atlanta, a boy who still was confused of how he can stand out from everybody and always getting over looked by everybody, so Fashion was my home, Fashion is my life , the same way Art is my life. I am my own brand and I am just having fun currently Hand Sewing, Hand Crocheting, Painting, Tie Dying, along with using a Sewing machine using different garment’s as my canvas , this is also for me my way of branding myself to get customers wherever I go because I wear my own Art on me every single day. Which lead’s to different organization’s , club’s and people asking me to be apart of event’s, fashion shows , collaboration’s and many more. I believe I stand out because I create for me and I don’t care what anybody will say because its my Art, I let my Art determine if i stand out because every person is going to have there own opinion about anything. I have learned on the way growing as a Creative that sometimes everybody isn’t going to understand or appreciate your vision until its too late so don’t give up on being you or let anybody try to change or affect your vision. Along with every Criticism is Good criticism in my head. I want the world to know to Give Me My Respect and my brand is literally me visually showing you how to create Art with Clothes.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would take my best friend to my Room because in my room your literally entering my world of creating , which includes any Art technique’s, along with just allowing them to express how they have been feeling catching up with them , to allow them to feel more comfortable. I would take them out to eat and drink at CiCi’s pizza, which is a pizza buffet area near my College , which I am deeply in love with, were you can also hang out and watch tv. I would also take them to Goodwill which is my favorite store in general. I have a deep love for thrift stores, due to the fact that everybody can not have the same thing you have and I create new garment’s from garments I find at Goodwill. I feel as if In my opinion just hanging out with me , going to eat going thrift shopping and creating in my room will have my best friend inspired and excited just because we spent time together and learned from each other in different ways.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to thank the people close to my life, who was literally there for me to be a support for me, nobody specifically helped create with me or for me but there’s people who continued to be in my life in the past and some currently now, that helped me continue to keep going, These people are Chasidy Morgan, Rasheem Callender and my father who is not currently with me anymore, but he’s a motivation for me to continue to keep going and to not give up because no matter how far you’ve come , as long as you remember to keep moving forward your doing a great job, Along with my friends and my family who has always been there to support me from a far. The biggest thing that helped me to create is my Emotions, I create the best Art while feeling how I feel no matter the case, I’ve realized people don’t even consider how much of how you feel can affect your work and your mind, I always try to visually write out or visually sketch illustrations of how I currently feel at that very moment and that helps me to process things and move forward .
