Meet Renya Curtis | Hair stylist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Renya Curtis and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Renya, what do you attribute your success to?
I would have to say that the most important factor behind my success is my customer service! It is very important to make sure each and every client are satisfied. Not only are you making sure that they are satisfied, you need to to make sure your clients feel welcomed, they need to feel comfortable in your space.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I offer a variety of protective hair styles. What sets me apart from others is the fact that I am very personable and welcoming with my clients. Many of them tell me this all of the time and it’s very heart warming, it really makes me feel good. I am always excited when we’re finally done and my clients get to see their hair, I absolutely love their reaction. I wouldn’t be where I am today professionally without my clients honestly.They literally keep me going.Not to brag but I also have quality work, my work speaks for itself. I can’t say that it has been easy but I will say it has all been worth it.You just have to keep going, keep promoting yourself on the daily. You can’t worry about who supports your business or not. Take a break when you need to, everyone needs a good reset sometimes. Everyone should know that NVstyles is like my baby, I put my all into what I do and take pride in each and every hairstyle that I do. Fun fact, I have a bachelors in psychology so I love that when my clients are in my chair they are comfortable enough with me to open up about anything. It makes me feel as if I’m using my degree in a sense. If this is a little inspiration for anyone wanting to start a business, I was fired from my job of 5 years for an apple watch. That was the best thing that could have happened to me. Here we are 2 months short of 2 years later and I am booked and busy and no one can fire me. I am the boss! So I’ll tell anyone to go for it as long as you have a plan.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
So the thing is I’ve been gone from my home town, Macon Ga, since 2012 when I went off to college. So now that i’m somewhat back, I’m actually exploring Macon now as an adult. So far my favorite places to eat are Tzangos, it’s a Mexican restaurant downtown I always get the house special. Right next door there’s a pizza place called Fatty’s and I think that has to be the best pizza I’ve ever had. Tropical smoothie Cafe on Riverside is also one of my favorites. I get the chicken chipotle club and the paradise point smoothie. There’s two bars that I like so far, Amici and BJ’s, I always get the grateful dead. How could I forget to mention Niche; it’s another bar/lounge. I always have the best of times there.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are actually a few people who deserves recognition in my story. The first person is my sister Necia,she came up with the name and the colors. She also created my Instagram business page and helped me as far as what I should and shouldn’t have on my page. The second person is my friend Tiffany, she researched marketing strategies without me asking. She told me how to work the hashtags, when to run a special, and when to post. She would even text me to see how my insights on posts were doing. She would text and asked if I posted content for the day. The next two people are my mom and dad. Because without them, I simply wouldn’t be here. My dad has owned his own barbershop for 14 years so I am very fortunate as well as grateful to work side by side with my dad and to not have to venture out and find a shop to work in.  I have to thank my mom for allowing me to work out of her house when the shop was under construction. I appreciate them all so much and it feels good to know that I have people like that on my team that’ll push my business.
