We had the good fortune of connecting with Dennis West and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dennis, do you have any habits that you feel contribute to your effectiveness?
Two of most important things I do is I try to be considerate and aware. I never know who is watching and or listening to what I put out. I’m always checking myself and asking if it was me, my child, siblings, parent of whomever would this be positive or subjective.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’ve been in the entertainment business in some form or another since 1978. Started with music, videos, concerts and eventually live stage events. I started writing down “how my day went” it soon became an outlet. Back in 2014 I experienced an event that changed my personal and business life forever. My mom git sick to the point where needed 24 hour care. I moved to my hometown to be with her. GOD knew what he was doing, I moved back home to take of my mom, infact GOD had me to move back to take of and work on me. I needed patience, long suffering and how to appreciate life and people. I had a lot of time on my hands so I started reading back over my life. During that time I published 5 books, executive producer of two stage plays and managed the professional careers of four artists. I put some of my life events into a stage play. I let a few people read it and didn’t tell them who wrote it. Everyone that read it had nothing but good things to say about it. So I had one more person in the business that I needed to hear from, reluctantly I sent it to them they said it was a hit, only then I decided to go ahead with a performance. After reading and reading one morning I woke up and called a venue for a date. As they say the rest is history, I wrote, produced and was executive producer of The Password it open to rave reviews and sold out 10 shows in 5 cities.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I really like to be enlighten, with that said, we would check out historic sights, eat iconic black owned businesses new and old. Some spots to meet and greet local industry up and coming as well as power brokers. With the pandemic being lifted “hopefully” we can visit some really night spots. To get out and mingle local shopping areas, parks, gym and coffee spots.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I definitely want to give credit to my mom, grandmother, siblings, kids and especially the grandkids. The person that inspired the writing my ex wife.
