Meet Danjale Williams | Recording Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Danjale Williams and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Danjale, how do you think about risk?
As of recently, I’m writing a lot about the current state of the social and political climate and it’s direct effects on underrepresented communities. In lieu of the current political regime, it is a constant risk to speak up and speak out against the injustice committed against people daily. I consider the consequences that I may face for sharing my message, but each day I remind myself to trust my intuition and trust my gut, and that no revolutionary change was ever comfortable or safe.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am an artist originally from Chicago local to the DMV area. I am known for giving a very versatile, power packed performance alongside my amazing dance troop, the Royals. I am extremely proud of the amount of reach we have been able to obtain on our own without the help of a label or management team., and I am excited for the stages that we prepare to touch in the future. I got to where I am by consistently seeking out opportunities to perform and being on as many stages as I possibly could as well as making sure that I aim to build and foster relationships that would be beneficial to me personally as well as professionally. This process was not particularly easy but it’s a part of the process. It has been well worth it. I have learned to ensure that I maintain balance between my business and leisure time, and to not be afraid to let people know when things don’t work for me. I want the world to know that it’s time to stop putting creatives in a box. Often times as I was in the early stages of my career people would tell me that I need to pick a genre or stick to a certain sound which for me made it very hard to articulate my thoughts. Balance and duality is important in all aspects of life and nobody’s creative process should be limited by restrictions on what people think things should sound like..

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
On Tuesday we would do the all day happy hour for $1 caipirinhas at Fogo de ciao. Gotta stop by 250 Texas barbecue to get some of the best smoked meats in town. Recently stumbled across F1 racing spot which has some of the best cocktails that I’ve ever had. I take them to Malcolm X Park drum circle on Sunday to catch the vibe and being around some really awesome black culture. Maybe on a Friday or Saturday hit up a rooftop bar or one of the club parties. I honestly don’t go out much unless it’s food or drinks.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to shout out my Mom who was always a voice of reason and encouragement since the very beginning of my career. She encouraged me to not only have fun and enjoy what I’m doing, but not be afraid to evolve as I grow and mature. She is a constant reminder that the impact that I leave on the people around me is just as important as me getting to my destination.
