We had the good fortune of connecting with Jenne$$y and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jenne$$y, let’s talk legacy – what do you want yours to be?
I want my legacy to be bringing timeless, inspiring music into the world. I want to be able to impact lives with my music, whether that is getting someone through a rough time, bringing positive vibes into the atmosphere or just having people really enjoy listening to the stories that I tell in my songs. I want to be able to have something concrete that my family and friends can go back to and say “she created this and it contributed good things to the world”. I want to be able to bring general wealth into my family and be able to take care of them from doing what I love. I want people to remember me as a unique and vibrant artist with many stories to tell.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Well I know it’s going to sound cliche, but I’m a singer/songwriter and I love music! I classify myself as an R&B singer but I’m definitely not against experimenting with my sound and trying new things. What sets me apart from other artists is that I come with my own sound and brand of creativity. I don’t really try to step into anyone else’s lane, I just make the kind of music that I like and appreciate whoever else enjoys it along the way. I also value the art of story telling and coming up with creative concepts behind each project. With everything from COVID to countless social injustices, and so many other things plaguing the world lately, I’m most proud of the release of my very first EP back in September “Butterfly Effect”! There’s so many things going on that I’m just really blessed to be able to have been able to put this project out there for the world. There was a lot that went into getting it done and I’m proud that I was able to accomplish this for myself. I’m definitely grateful for all of the positive feedback and love it’s been getting! I think I’ve shown that I have potential for what it takes to be successful in this industry and I’m just going to keep getting better so I’m excited for the journey. And also having a wonderful support system and team of talented people around me who help push me to reach my goals helps a lot. One of the biggest lessons that I’ve learned so far is to not compromise yourself or your art, ever. If it’s something that you really believe in, even if others are doubtful, go for it! One of the worst things you can do is not try.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
There’s really not a lot of places we can go these days with COVID s and its also getting very cold this time of year lol so I’m honestly not sure where I would take them. I’m somewhat of a homebody so I don’t go out much anyway.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to shout out my mother, brother and sister for being some of my first and biggest fans. I want to shout out my friend Mo who has taken the time out to take countless pictures of me, Jared who would send me countless mixes for songs until we got the right one, everyone who listen to and share my music, and all of my true fans!
