We had the good fortune of connecting with Jodie Kennedy- Aguina and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jodie, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The most important factor behind my success and the success of my brand is my ability to be selfless. I have learned that every successful brand has a leader that cares about the people that represent the brand and most importantly the people that support it.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
What sets me apart from others is my attention to detail and my patience when creating nail art and essential products. I want my clients to feel important and that I care about what they want. I’m most excited about my future because I know what I have to offer others. I get nail art inspiration and creativity from music, experiences and things around me. I believe I got where I am professionally by being myself, focusing on what I wanted my brand to represent and how I wanted to represent my brand. It’s all in your mind and in your heart. If you work hard, you can express what’s in your heart through your work. I can say starting out this was not easy, but I got better at it with time. To overcome challenges, I remain focused and patient with myself. I also take mental breaks to keep a clear mind. I’ve learned that patients is your best friend, but time waits for no one. I’ve also learned to listen to no one, but be so connected to your heart and soul that you feel what you need to do next. I want the world to know that “I AM” Qoh Nail Art & Essentials and whether they purchase my essential products or if they schedule a nail appointment with me, I just want everyone to feel my love and care through my brand.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my girlfriends came in town, it would be to visit me in my hometown New Orleans, LA. The first stop would have to be Neow’s Creole Cafe for great New Orleans cuisine and drinks. We would definitely go to the French Market to purchase souvenirs and experience some of the true New Orleans historical areas and landmarks. We would visit the beautiful City Park and eat at Cafe Du Monde and enjoy Beignets and Hot Chocolate. We would finish off the trip at Harrah’s Casino.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I lost my father and my mother-in-law the same year I started cosmetology school. Through it all I could really depend on my school director, Lenthoria Ousley. Lenthoria is the owner and director of Professional Hair Designers Institution of Beauty, my mentor and friend. Along with Lenthoria, I would like to dedicate my Shout to my mom (Terry Sawyer) husband (Erik Aguina) and children (Gervawn, Kamryn and Victor) who have been my support system by loving and encouraging me to be great and do my very best.
