We had the good fortune of connecting with Kenya Sheats and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kenya, what is the most important factor behind your success?
The most important factor behind my success is my relationship with God (Christ), being intentional, and obedient in everything I do. With God all things are possible, and we know faith without works is dead. I incorporate prayer and meditation into my daily routine, it’s actually a lifestyle. I also take the time to plan, strategize, and write my visions down so I can effectively execute the tasks that are assigned to me or that simply needs to be done. I like to work in a timely, but well thought out manner, so I can move on to the next thing. Just knowing I’m getting closer to a goal or something is progressing is a success, to me. I’ve learned that life is one huge process and God has a plan for each and every one of us. As long as you tap into your gift, it will make room for you and bring you amongst great men. Over the years, I have taken on or created opportunities whether they were paid or unpaid. I was in it for the experience, knowledge, and the sharpening of my skills and professionalism. All things work together for the good of those who are called according to his purpose. I solely believe that after all of this time working in and on my business. By the grace of God, things are really taking off and I know it’s because I’ve been faithful, obedient, consistent, persistent,  authentic, intentional. strong, courageous, and ambitious. I believe that I can do all things through Christ and that’s what I do. I put all my trust in the Lord. I do what I can and he does what I cannot. I also use my God-given gifts to help others reach their goals and in return, I am gratefully compensated. It’s the results for me! I love when my clients are satisfied and they feel as though they have just completed a task and are ready for the next big thing by incorporating the content I wrote and designed for them to position themselves to prosper. Everything I do is with purpose and I keep people and their best interest at heart. Just being a people person has been a blessing and I understand God blesses us through people, so it’s imperative that we are patient, loving, and kind. You never know who God is going to use and how he’s going to use them. Just having my mindset on common goals, which are my relationship with God, self-love, health, wealth, prosperity, freedom, creativity, and abundance has gotten me in the exact place where I am today. Lord knows I have been changed!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
First of all, I will start by saying, “please keep in mind I’m an artist, and I am sensitive about my sh**.” I also want to say that being a creative or an innovator is a gift and you have to learn how to appreciate what you were born to do and learn how to win with it. I believe that’s what sets me apart from my “competition” which is my ability to operate in my gift, change my mindset, and my willingness to turn my dreams into reality. Although I make things look easy, I’m really working hard every day, being resilient, and doing what it takes to be successful. At the end of the day, no else can be like Kenya Sheats, and I don’t want to be like anyone else. I love the lane God has allowed me to create for myself because I am going at my own steady pace and things that are coming my way are for me with my name on it. So I tend to focus on what’s in front of me and not what’s beside or behind me. Since the age of 12, I’ve been able to grow in my gift of writing, speaking, coaching, and graphic designing, making me a multifaceted individual who is using her gifts to serve others and create a thriving income and abundant lifestyle. On top of that, my light bulb is constantly flickering and I’m always coming up with these crazy, but effective ideas that help my clients, creative entrepreneurs, people, and brands grow their visibility and reach their communication/public relations goals through well-written digital content. Over this past year alone, I’ve learned there are so many people who have ideas but they don’t or won’t act on them. I mean, “I had an idea for the past five years now with no action” is really a conversation. Why must people romanticize procrastination, when those very ideas can be the reason why someone is the next inventor or the next CFO of a billion-dollar company? Ideas are random, I get it; but you have to take time to record them, write them down. That’s exactly what I do. Even if there are so many ideas written down and it seems as though they won’t come to pass, they will. I want to ensure you, things will happen in its own timing, and most of the time, it’s on time. God is never late. As creatives, we must be our own biggest fan. We cannot wait on someone else to approve, validate, or compliment on what we are working towards before we feel like our work is “good enough” because it already is. You have to fall in love with what you do because it’ll never feel like work. That same love helps to exude confidence and when you are confident about a product or service you provide, it shows and people who see that you believe in yourself and that your product/service is results-driven, purposeful, and inspirational, they are going to want to support. Buy! Invest! Share! Like! Comment! So it’s always important for me to take my ideas into consideration before throwing them away because they come with a purpose. I look at them as another piece to my business and success puzzle. Look at it like this, you’re a CEO in the making. The more ideas you have, the more opportunities you can create to make money and live life on your terms. Doesn’t that sound good? Stop overthinking and convincing yourself that you don’t deserve to have what your heart desires. If you can see it, then you can speak it, and then you can obtain it. Believe in yourself and act on those ideas. Write the vision down and make it plain! Lastly, I AM MY BRAND!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Listen! I love hiking Kennesaw Mountain, Amicalola Falls, Sweet Water State Creek Park, nature trails, and since I’ve become more about that “fit life,” I would encourage my friend who just came into town to come with me and enjoy a dynamic workout with an impressive view of large bodies of water and beautiful scenery. Did I mention I love a good view? I absolutely love a good view, that’s why I would suggest going to the park or attend an outdoor activity. Either way, you can catch me in my zone, enjoying God’s beautiful creations, and minding my black-owned business. We would definitely do this in the AM. In the afternoon, I’ll probably recommend we get something to eat after burning all of those calories and knowing me, I’m going to want some Boiled Seafood (Tasty Crab House or Krab Queenz ATL) or some hot wings (U Bar, American Deli) or a good menu selection from TGI Fridays, Ruth’s Chris, or a diner downtown. Basically anywhere with some good food. lol We could go for Mexican food as well. We would then catch a comedy show or go to the drive-in. I love to laugh and I also love to watch a good movie. Oh yeah, a concert or an exclusive event would be a good choice too. Being that I am media and have my own online publication by the name of MyWay Magazine, I have access to some of the most star-studded private celebrity events; that’s always a plus. And because I go to every event by myself anyway, not including my photographer, I would love to have a plus one; however, being in good company is so hard to find. Now if we were planning to go out of town, I would strongly suggest New York City. A lot of people haven’t gone and I believe NYC is an experience within itself and everyone should visit at least one time. I’m not from Manhattan but I know where to go. After spending many birthdays and occasions, I’ve learned how to maneuver and I know some cool spots to go like the library (I love NY libraries), restaurants, clothing boutiques, etc. I really love Halal food. It’s so delicious and it’s sold on like every corner. lol My kind of life! Can’t forget that cheesecake and of yeah, my favorite restaurant in NYC is BBQs. Honey, that honey-glazed fried chicken, and mac-n-cheese is cooked to perfection. Plus that 12oz. Strawberry Texas Frozen Margarita is the bomb. We are definitely hitting the one in Brooklyn or Queens near Parsons, or Time Square!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
No cap. My Bishop Dale C. Bronner has been a very significant “virtual” mentor in my life. I don’t know him personally, but his Sunday teachings have blessed me in miraculous ways, to the point where I know I am in the right congregation of people and leadership. I believe leaders are born and yet, equipped. Before we become great people, God takes us on a journey that reveals his love, and grace as well as who we are in him. My Bishop embodies the likeliness of what could be God’s Image and it comes with seasoned perfection. With so many years of experience and being able to meet, interact, build, and lead a very diverse group of people is what I admire and appreciate, knowing that someone I look up to for true Christain Authenticity, especially in the church, is intentional and the work done is impactful. Who we surround ourselves with matters and I choose to be amongst people of greatness and gratitude. People who know the word and use it as a foundation to live life more abundantly and showing/leading the way for other believers.
