We had the good fortune of connecting with mosab alnomire and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi mosab, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I am a poet and Journalist. Poetry is the flavor of life for me. It can be bitter or sweet, but I believe that it generates meaning and value. Journalism allows me to seek answers for the existential questions I have in this complex world. Poetry and journalism combined are my tools to understand and express. This is my way of communicating and interacting as a person.

What should our readers know about your business?
Henna Platform Started as a media platform to highlight and amplify the voices of the Arabic-speaking activists and communities in Canada and build bridges with other communities. Our aim is to create in-depth content and events that goes beyond the surface to dig deep in the issues of immigration, uprooting, gender, and identity. Instead of being objects of the knowledge generated about us, we want to generate this knowledge that clarifies all the dimension of our experiences. This is the unique part of Henna, being brave, critical and insightful. It was not easy to start this platform, because we lacked all the resources needed to create and sustain the work. It takes huge efforts from us, since we are mostly volunteering. The lesson we are learning is that to make a progress in this difficult circumstances, our believe in the cause must be strong. We won’t have answers for all the questions and concerns we have, we will find it during the journey. I want other organizations and groups to know that the value of any work is determined by the meaning it can create.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I think if the weather is good I would take them to the park, to enjoy the sun and have a coffee. Then I will make sure we take our nap to recharge our self before going to a life music event. We will eat shawarma for sure, and I, unfortunately, have to brag about Middle Eastern food for a while. I will make sure to go to the hill and see the moon at night. Are we smoking a joint then? maybe.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I dedicate most of my love and courage to my grandmother and all the women that were around me in this life. I was lucky to be raised and surrounded by women. They taught me how to be sensitive, how to resist and twist the overwhelming pain. They taught me that even if life is difficult and brutal, we have to live it with its joy and pain. It is ok to be helpless and defeated. The acceptance of our fragility is the first step to be strong. I am grateful for the women who thought me to be aware of others’ emotions and needs. This is what allowed me to form strong communication with my environment and community, and having this connection is the main reason of my success.
