We had the good fortune of connecting with LaKeisha Fleming and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi LaKeisha, as a parent, what do you feel is the most meaningful thing you’ve done for them?
I think the most important thing I’ve done for my children is to live according to my convictions as an honest and transparent person, and show them that nothing is impossible. My convictions of loving God and living my life according to the Word of God permeates every part of my being – my marriage, my relationships with my children and family members, my friendships, my business, my work projects, my activities – everything. Principles of integrity, honesty and working in excellence are a part of my character, and I train my children to imbibe that same spirit. As for being honest and transparent, that doesn’t mean I share every detail of my life with my kids. What it does mean is that I answer their questions honestly, on a level they understand. If I make a mistake, I apologize. I’m honest about needing help in certain arenas, and am not ashamed to ask for assistance or speak up for myself. I don’t always get it right, but I try. I think my children appreciate that, and I hope it inspires them to do the same in their lives. My children know that we can do anything we put our minds to, and we don’t settle for less. I plan to publish my first book in October chronicling my experience with depression and mental health. My 13-year-old son published a book in August; his younger brother illustrated it. All things are possible to him (or her) that believes!

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I am the Founder and President of Vision 2:2 Productions, LLC (www.vision22productions.com) We are a multi-media production company that provides engaging and informative content, that entertains, motivates and inspires. I am a prolific writer, with over 20 years of experience writing for a variety of platforms, including film, television, websites, blogs, and more. Previous clients include CNN and Tyler Perry Studios. We teach and instruct, offering a variety of workshops and online courses. And I’m thrilled to announce the company’s latest venture into book publishing. I am authoring my book chronicling my unique journey through depression and mental health issues as a woman of color, while dealing with a traumatic miscarriage. My book has a projected launch date in October. I’m also proud to announce we recently published my son Andrew’s first book, an exciting work of action and adventure, illustrated by my youngest son, Brycen. It is called “Tales of a Teenage Journalist”. My desire is to share my diverse life experiences with others in a creative fashion through my company and my work, whether on screen, digitally, or in print.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If a dear friend decided to come for a visit, I would love to do activities that allow us a time of rest, relaxation and rejuvenation. I have enjoyed many times of escape at Chateau Elan. I also loved my visit to Brasstown Valley Resort & Spa. Though it’s been many years, Ritz Carlton Reynolds Plantation was an ideal standout for a getaway escape. As far as places to eat, Franks at the Old Mill is one of my favorite spots. The Georgia Aquarium and Civil Rights Museums are sought-after sites in Atlanta, and I’m always up for a visit. You can never run out of things to see. My husband proposed at Centennial Olympic Park, so that park has a special place in my heart.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My husband and my sons have been my biggest cheerleaders and I am so grateful for them. They’ve been a huge blessing to my life. I’ve also received enormous encouragement from my dear friend, Kimyetta Hayden, owner of Victorious Connections Institute. She has always pushed me to think and believe big. Tammy Williams of Tammy’Dele Films and writer Brian Egeston have both served as mentors to me. Having the opportunity to work with and observe Tyler Perry was an incredibly valuable learning experience. There are so many people who have selflessly given of their time, talent and treasure to get me to where I am today. This list is by no means exhaustive!
