Hi Sumana, do you have a favorite quote or affirmation?
“What we think we become”- Gautam Buddha This quote helps me understand who I’m and what my thoughts are. Our thoughts make us who we are. I like the fact that if you can tune into your thoughts you can tune into your life. There is one you , learn your thoughts and be what you want to be. My thought is my identity.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m a certified immigration interpreter by profession and a model by passion. I mostly interpret for state and federal courts. I also do political and medical interpreting. My most prestigious interpreting assignment was when I chosen to interpret for the Prime Minister of India live for CNN at CNN. There is no substitute to hard work and perseverance. I practice that both in interpreting and modeling Well, I was lucky enough to get some serious assignments at the beginning of my career. It definitely gave me more exposure and visibility at a relatively faster rate. The biggest hurdle for a legal Bengali interpreter in the United Sates is that there are not that many available. There is a demand in the industry but there is no role model as such. I have paved my own path, so far, walked on my own road, Lets see where it takes me. My goal is to work for FBI as an interpreter. As a model my hurdle was I’m an Indian model in the American diaspora! Learning runway to carrying coutures it was a very interesting journey so far. And I’m excited to see what’s in store for future. Don’t be afraid to take on a path of uncertainty. Take it if that’s your calling and put your heart and soul to it. You may fail but you won’t regret. I bridge the gap and become the voice. I didn’t follow my passion I followed my joy. Interpreting gave me perspective on life and brought me closer to life in general. Modeling brought confidence style and expression to my personality. Stay chic stay you is my mantra!
