We had the good fortune of connecting with Ariel Canady and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ariel, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My thought process behind starting a business was knowing that I wanted to be financially happy and free doing something I truly love to do and don’t mind doing everyday.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I feel as though I’m set apart from other nail techs because I having an extensive background in customer service over the years of working in retail and corporate offices. It’s very important to have great customer service and a connection with your client because having those key factors are guaranteed for the client to come back and book again . You want them to feel relaxed during their service and enjoying their time there to be pampered. Majority of clients are looking forward to their appointments with you. I’ve been told that I am a caring person that understands peoples needs. What I’m most proud of that I’ve accomplished over the past few months is being able to rent out a suite two weeks after graduating nail school to service my clients. Most people tend to go straight to a nail salon to gain experience and clientele but with me I felt like I was supposed to be my own boss now and not later. To get to where I am today took a lot of courage, tears, sleepless nights, worrying, and second guessing my craft in nails. This journey that I’ve been on to become one of the most outstanding nail techs have been very difficult for me. There were numerous times where I felt like I should just give up and find a different interest that will be easier then learning different techniques or the important information behind working with hands and feet that didn’t peek my interest, at the time. I’ve over came these challenges by telling myself that if I learned these different techniques or important information about serving a client, it would help me in the long run. I would tell myself how would I feel telling a client that I can’t do a certain type of service because I didn’t find it interesting in school, or informing the client that I have no knowledge of why something has gone wrong after the service has been perform would make me look really bad. So pushing myself to learn the things I didn’t like help me over come those obstacles. The lessons I’ve learned while being on this journey is never let anyone tell you, you can’t do it, or not to take something so serious because in my case it’s just nails, and to block out all negativity that could case you to lose hope. I want the world to know that regardless of my doubts or bad times I fought through it no matter what! Because I know what I’m capable of and doing nails does not stop here!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I don’t go out as much, especially in the city, but if I do my favorite place to go out to is this lounge called Atlantis Restaurant & lounge.. i think this is a place where you want to chill out and have some amazing food, hookah and great music! It’s definitely a place I would recommend anyone to if they are looking for those three things!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to give a shoutout to my mom, auntie, sister and step father for pushing me to finish school, and become licensed even though I had very tough nights with school, and then I had a car accident months after school started and I wasn’t able to attend school for almost a month and that pushed me back further from graduation. Once I realize how this can change my life and I want to be happy waking up every morning to go to work, I knew going to school to finish what I started was important and needed to happen so that I could be successful and happy!
