We had the good fortune of connecting with Robin Sharmaine and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Robin, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I didn’t set out to be a beauty professional or PMU artist. I stumbled upon it. Prior to this, I was a pharmacy technician, for over 10 years. I also became a web developer. But nothing brought me more joy than “playing” in makeup. I used to do my makeup, just to sit around the house. It was a passion of mine, but only a hobby. Eventually, people began asking me if I would do their makeup or their brows. That was the most intimidating thing to me, at that time, because I didn’t feel qualified. So I decided that I would take a course to become a certified MUA. To be honest, the course was just to make me feel more confident, as an artist. A few years after completing that training, I stumbled upon a video about permanent makeup. I fell in love with it! Now I’m able to provide a semi-permanent solution to women who have lost their brows due to chemo, alopecia, or just overplucking them. The feeling I get when I witness my clients look into the mirror, after years of not having brows, to having some that I created for them, is undescribable. It’s more than fulfilling! What I love most about my industry, is that it is forever changing. I’m always learning and improving my techniques. I’ve been able to turn my passion for beauty/makeup into a full-scale permanent makeup business, that is growing!

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?

Bladed Glory is a full brow studio that provides Microblading, Microshading, and Henna Brow Tinting services.

What sets us apart from others is that we specialize in natural-looking brows.

My daughter gets to see me happy, doing what I love. That makes me the proudest
.
I’m most excited about adding Scalp Micropigmentation to the list of services that I offer. Scalp Micropigmentation is a non-surgical, superficial cosmetic tattoo that gives the illusion of a close buzz cut hairstyle on a bald heald or density to a thinning crown.

In business, it is all about who you know. I can’t tell you that I got it out of the mud. That’s not my story. I have one of the greatest business minds helping me run the show. So my advice would be mentorship. Reach out to someone who has had success in the field that you want to be in. Not just success, but failures as well.

The most important lesson that I’ve learned is that I am capable. Fear and anxiety is just a trick from the enemy. Don’t let it stop you.

I want the world to know that I am passionate about the work that I do. I get so much joy knowing that I did a small thing, that was life-changing to someone else.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I think Little Five Points is my favorite place in Atlanta. I’m an Aquarius and Little Five Points scream Aquarius! So we’d definitely hit up some of the afro-centric shops there. Grab a bite at Thai 5. Saturday, brunch at Negril is always a good time!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
To mother, Alice Hurst, and my sister, Nina Johnson. You two were my very first supporters. I remember after I completed my training, I received this random cash app from my sister, Nina, and I just cried. It was an ugly cry too. She sowed the first seed into my business. I’ll never forget that. My mother was the first person that I’ve ever attempted microblading on. I was so afraid, but she believed in me so much that she was willing to be the first. Thank you mom! Also, I have to thank Jibril Sulaiman, founder of Incluzion, for his years of expertise and advice. Jibril has been the business of my creativity. You have been invaluable to Bladed Glory. I just hope that you never ask me to pay you back, because I ain’t got it. And to my daughter, Aasha. The love of my life. You are the brightest light there is. Mommy wants to be just like you when I grow up. To all of my beautiful clients, you guys could have chosen anyone else, knowing that, I’m even more appreciative of you choosing Bladed Glory! To my daddy (Robert), Princess Mitchell, Calvin (Van) Mitchel, Renee Hurst, Chareese (Reesie), and Gabrielle (Gabe); sometimes you may be unaware of the impact that you have on others, but I just wanted to let you all know that you’ve all had a major impact on me. Thank you!
