We had the good fortune of connecting with Fred Hardy II and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Fred, can you share the most important lesson you’ve learned over the course of your career?
Networking and collaboration. It took a little time for me to realize the value of meeting other professionals in my field and building relationships that are essential to both my growth as a photographer and as an entrepreneur. We often hear stories about being “self-made” but I am learning that those situations are a small percentage, and having some guidance in my journey has been invaluable.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’ve already talked about the value of building relationships, but the truth is, it takes hard work to succeed. One of the most common questions I get asked is, how do I get better at photography? And a lot of people want some kind of tip or trick, but the only way to get better and push yourself to the next level is to get out there and just do it. If you want to do photography, you have to shoot every day. If you want to make music, you have to make music every day. Seek out professionals who you want to be like and follow them. Learn from them by seeing how they create their art, and do that with your own spin. You’re the only one who possesses your talents, so get out there and do it. Every day.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Honestly, my friends and I enjoy going out and trying different breweries and restaurants. If there is live music or a DJ, then I am sold haha! I also like going out and seeing new places. I don’t think we make time for that enough in our lives.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I have had several people help me along the way. But I honestly could not have done any of it without my wife, Aimee Hardy. She has encouraged me to go after my dreams from the start. She continues to push me to grow and to be a better version of myself daily. Aimee, my love, thank you!
