We had the good fortune of connecting with Jasmine Alexander and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jasmine, why did you pursue a creative career?
I started with a passion to create at a very young age. While I was growing up,having a dream to become an actress was not something most people saw as obtainable. I remember growing up in cold flint, MI, where I would watch a ton of movies and shows being so inspired and moved. It was amazing to see how people that look like me can create such magic on the “big screen” I had one goal in mind. And that was to become an actress! I was dead set on it and after many of life’s obstacles, I am proud to say I am an actor/ filmmaker.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am an actor/filmmaker. I started my acting journey like most actors as background/extra. I then ventured on to many other projects, such as short films and web series. The project I am most known for and very proud of is Texas Flip N Move. I went in as an extra and left having a speaking role. I am one of those people that takes everything as a sign from God! So to me, that told me everything I needed to know at that moment. Acting is exactly where I belong. Those episodes can be seen on HGTV and or Amazon prime. I would consider myself Quite new in the filmmaking world however my goal is to make a mark in the future as a great Director/filmmaker. Since the pandemic, I have created 6 short films. Two of those have been released to film festivals where I have won multiple awards such as “Best Actress”, “Best short film”, and “ Best women filmmaker” just to name a few. I am truly honored and shocked that my dreams are becoming a reality. It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. A lot of my struggles were dealing with my inner conflict. I was that shy and quiet girl that had big dreams that nobody saw coming into reality. I doubted myself at times. However, it was always my drive and passion that allowed me to push through. I think what’s sets me apart from others is my gift to see the creative nature in everything I do. My passion for the arts runs deep. I plan to push my creative side to the limits with only a positive outcome to be expected.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Oh for me I would definitely try a lot of Atlanta‘s nightlife I have to admit I am new to the Atlanta area so I don’t have certain spots picked out but I think if my best friend was coming into town it will be the perfect time to explore the nightlife with her. I would also take her to a couple of the restaurants around the Buckhead area we would also check out a few comedy clubs because who doesn’t love a great laugh and then we would definitely have to visit a few of Atlanta‘s museums.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
To be honest, there is no way to just name one person or one thing. I have to shout out so many people that I have come across in my life that has motivated me to keep going, pushing me to stay strong. So many books and movies have inspired me as well as friends and family. So shoutout to everyone that I have cross paths with because without you/yall I wouldn’t be who I am today.
