We had the good fortune of connecting with Jasmine Sims and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jasmine, any advice for those thinking about whether to keep going or to give up?
I pondered this question for several days only to realize that I am in the very thick of this moment. It is still crazy to me how what started as a Facebook post has blossomed into a beautiful experience that I get to share with others. So I’ve wrestled with this question on numerous occasions. When I’m in the moment of questioning whether to give up or push through, it brings a pause and makes me ask myself a question that a good friend often asks me, “Have you completed the assignment?” So far for me the answer to that question has been “No, I have not.” So I acknowledge the feeling, reevaluate or seek counsel ( if necessary) and I commit to pressing forward. There’s someone out there that needs what I have to offer. On the flip side, if you feel as though you have completed your assignment or it is becoming more of a chore you strongly dislike then it might be time to let it go or move on to the next venture.

I recently came across a thought from NUL that stated, “Obstacles are made to overcome, but sometimes they are a sign to change course.” It couldn’t have come at a better time than now. This completely resonated with me because obstacles don’t mean quit.I strongly suggest NOT giving up because it’s hard. Life can be hard but luckily we get to choose our hard in most cases. So for that I keep going until I complete my assignment. I encourage others to do the same.

Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
Recently, I walked away from teaching to really hone in on where I felt I needed to be. While on this break, I’m putting more time and effort into LYT (Live Your Truth). LYT came to be from a DM. I created it to show other young adults how to walk in their purpose authentically and to serve as a resource. So from the beginning with an intimate conference setting to now hosting link ups (hiking, yoga, etc) and just holding space for young adults to thrive and live their truths. Though it has not been a easy task, I am committed to doing the werk and helping others along the way.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love brunch! So I would take them to brunch at either Gocha’s, The Hive, or Breakfast at Barney’s. If there was a social event that sparked our interest I’d suggest that. I’m not much of a clubber but I’d find a nice lounge if they were feeling that scene. Each day they would eat well and have an opportunity to meet new people or experience something new. .

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to dedicate this shoutout first to my family, specifically my parents and sister, who have been my biggest supporters every step of the way. To two of my closest friends, Paige and Marquita, for their unwavering faith in me, consistent support of LYT, and encouragement.
Jassmine, for her nomination and for pushing me wayyyyy beyond my comfort zone.
Lastly, to every Weekender in the LYT Tribe for their support and trust in this movement.
Thank you all!
