We had the good fortune of connecting with Zoe Vlamis and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Zoe, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
For me, I wanted to do something that fulfilled me, and that was art. It’s embracing your passions and pushing yourself through the rough times. I knew I needed to promote, promote, promote, engage, and flesh out a brand that would be recognizable as well as relatable.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My art is a mix of stylized graphics, branded merchandise, and home decor pieces. The thing that launched my career was the incredible opportunity to provide designs for merchandise via a partnership program with Adult Swim & Cartoon Network. Once I realized I was capable than more than I gave myself credit for, it was liberating. From there, I’ve continued producing designs and freelance projects. The largest lesson I’ve learned is to be diligent. It’s fun, but it’s work. It’s fine consuming, it can be expensive, it can be exhausting at times, but remember your are doing it for YOU. In regards to myself and the brand, I want people to know that EVERYONE matters, every action has a reaction, and that action is what we put out into the world. While we promote a light hearted and accepting brand, we also work to fight injustices everywhere. We actively want to spread awareness without profiting off of the plights of others, so designs such as our Black Lives Matter lines and Born of an Immigrant line, the profits of such designs are immediately donated to applicable charities such as BLM & Amnesty International.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Some of my favorite spots to eat would be Taqueria Tsunami and Iron Age. I am a sucker for korean bbq. The High Museums Second Sunday program is a great way for people to dip their toes into the art world without a financial neccesity. Their free entry to the museum on the second Sunday each month is an incredible way to expand your world view and experience new art. The upcoming pop up Van Gogh immersive museum, CANNOT WAIT.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My best friend, my other half, my absolute soul mate from a past life, Taylor Wang (Newell) at Rotten Peach Oddities. Thank you for always supporting my creative endeavors and never letting me hold myself back.
