Today we’re excited to be connecting with Waneka Johnson-bouyer Mba, Mcs again. If you haven’t already, we suggest you check out our prior conversation with them here.

Waneka, thanks for joining us again. Just to level set a bit for folks who may have missed our last interview together, can you briefly introduce yourself?
My name is Waneka Johnson-Bouyer, MBA, MCS, and I am the CEO of iBuild Careers, a career consultation company that specializes in creating resumes, CVs, cover letters, letters of resignation, as well as business cards. What sets iBuild Careers apart is the ability to create resumes that appeals to employers in a way that makes them want to learn more about the client’s skills.

I created this business after working for a local nonprofit that specializes in providing reentry services for those who have been previously incarcerated. They knew that getting back on their feet meant finding employment but did not understand the steps to get there. I helped clients to think through the skills learned while incarcerated and how they can be transferred to the workplace. From there, resumes were created, and these individuals were getting employed regardless of their background. Along with the life skills learned while in the program, the employment and retention rate for the clients increased tremendously, with some becoming truck drivers, customer service professionals, and even business owners.

Alright, so our main goal today is to give our audience an update on what you have been up to since our last conversation. We’d love to hear how things are going and what you are most looking forward to or excited about these days.
Four months after the last interview, I had a beautiful socially distant beach wedding in Florida (thanks COVID)! I also enrolled back into school in 2021 majoring in Human Resources to enhance my skills so I can really understand what employers look for. I received my MBA in Human Resource Management in December 2023, and a promotion at work January 2025, all while still helping clients to reach their full potential.

We also want to give folks a chance to get to know you a bit better so we’ve prepared a fun lightning round of questions. Ready?
